Draftkings MLB Showdown Picks: Mets vs. Pirates 6/27/25
New York Mets vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
June 27, 2025 6:40 pm EDT
Major League Baseball presents Draftkings baseball fans with a National League matchup featuring the New York Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a DFS perspective.
Before we dive into the New York Mets vs. Pittsburgh Pirates game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings MLB single game showdown contest.
Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules
You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.
The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.
If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.
*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate.
Here are my Draftkings picks for tomorrow night’s Mets vs. Pirates matchup.
Draftkings MLB Showdown Picks
Captain-David Peterson, Starting Pitcher, New York Mets $11,800
On Friday night, Major League Baseball presents the opening game of a three-game National League series featuring the New York Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
How are these two teams playing entering tomorrow’s MLB game? The New York Mets arrive at the first game of this three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates playing below average baseball. More specifically, the Mets have lost ten of the team’s last 13 games played in the 2025 MLB regular season, including a 10-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies last week.
Similar to the New York Mets, the Pittsburgh Pirates are currently playing subpar baseball entering tomorrow night’s game. The Pirates have lost eight of the team’s last 11 games played in the 2025 MLB regular season, including a 9-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers two days ago.
Now that we have identified how both of these teams are currently playing let’s shift our focus to tomorrow’s National League game. Starting pitcher David Peterson has certainly been a standout performer for the New York Mets this season. With that said, how has Peterson performed from a statistical standpoint? Let’s review the veteran pitcher’s relevant game data from the 2025 MLB regular season to answer that question.
In 15 starts made this season, New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson has compiled a 5-2 (win-loss record), a 2.98 ERA (Earned Run Average) and a 1.24 WHIP (Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched). It should also be noted that Peterson has amassed 78 strikeouts while allowing 31 walks in 90.2 innings pitched in 2025.
More recently, in the New York Mets 5-0 victory over the Washington Nationals earlier this month, Mets starting pitcher David Peterson pitched exceptionally well. Peterson pitched nine quality innings while scattering six hits and no walks in the Mets defeat of the Nationals. It should also be noted that Peterson struck out six Nationals batters in the Mets win over Washington.
In my view, David Peterson is the most likely player to post the most Draftkings points in this MLB regular season game. Having stated that, I am backing New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson the captain position for this one game MLB DFS slate.
Flex plays I like to play well in this MLB regular season contest (Draftkings price noted): Mitch Keller, Starting Pitcher (Pittsburgh Pirates) $10,400: Jeff McNeil, Second Baseman (New York Mets) $5,800: Ronny Mauricio, Shortstop (New York Mets) $3,800.
