San Diego Padres vs. Houston Astros
April 19, 2025 9:10 pm EDT

Major League Baseball presents Draftkings baseball fans with a National League matchup featuring the San Diego Padres and the Houston Astros. Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a DFS perspective.

Before we dive into the San Diego Padres vs. Houston Astros game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings MLB single game showdown contest.

Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules

You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.

The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.

*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate.

Here are my Draftkings picks for tonight’s San Diego Padres vs. Houston Astros matchup.

Draftkings MLB Showdown Picks

Captain-Michael King, Starting Pitcher, San Diego Padres $11,600

Later today, Major League Baseball presents the second game of a three-game National League series featuring the San Diego Padres and the Houston Astros.

How are these two teams playing entering tonight’s MLB game? The San Diego Padres arrive at the second game of this three-game series with the Houston Astros playing good baseball. More specifically, the San Diego Padres have won eight of the team’s last 11 games played in the 2025 MLB regular season, including a dominant 10-4 win over the Chicago Cubs earlier this week.

Similar to the San Diego Padres, the Houston Astros are currently playing rather well entering this evening’s game. The Astros have won four of the team’s last seven games played in the 2025 MLB regular season, including a 2-0 shutout win over the St. Louis Cardinals four days ago.

Now that we have determined how both of these teams are currently playing let’s shift our attention to tonight’s contest. Starting pitcher Michael King has been a standout performer for the San Francisco Giants this season. With that said, how has King performed from a statistical standpoint in 2025? Let’s review the veteran pitcher’s relevant game data from the 2025 MLB regular season to answer that question.

Through four starts made this season, San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King has compiled a rather impressive 3-0 (win-loss record), a 2.42 ERA (Earned Run Average) and a 1.07 WHIP (Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched). It should also be noted that Michael King has amassed 24 strikeouts while allowing eight walks in 16 innings pitched this season.

More recently, in the San Diego Padres 6-0 shutout win over the Colorado Rockies six days ago, San Diego starting pitcher Michael King pitched exceptionally well. Let me be more specific. King pitched nine quality innings while scattering five hits and allowing four walks in the San Diego Padres defeat of the Rockies.

In my view, Michael King is the most likely player to post the most Draftkings points in tonight’s MLB regular season game. Having stated that, I am backing San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King at the captain position for this one game MLB DFS slate.

Flex plays I like to play well in this MLB regular season contest (Draftkings price noted): Hayden Wesneski, Starting Pitcher (Houston Astros) $11,200: Fernando Tatis Jr., Outfielder (San Diego Padres) $9,600: Tyler Wade, Outfielder (San Diego Padres) $3,000.
