Major League Baseball presents a matchup between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a Draftkings perspective.

Prior to discussing the New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings single game showdown contest.

Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules

You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.

The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.

*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate.

Here are my Draftkings picks for tonight’s New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox matchup.

Draftkings MLB Showdown Picks

Captain-Nestor Cortes, Starting Pitcher, New York Yankees $10,400

On Thursday evening, Major League Baseball presents the opening game of a four game American League series between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox.

How are these two teams playing entering tonight’s MLB game? The New York Yankees arrive at the first game of this American League series with the Boston Red Sox playing quality baseball. The Yankees have won four of the team’s last six games played in the 2024 MLB regular season, including a 3-0 shutout win over the Chicago Cubs last week.

Similar to the New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox are playing rather good baseball entering this evening’s American League contest. Let me be more specific. The Red Sox have won four of the team’s last six games played this season, including a dominating 12-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles three days ago.

Now that we have ascertained how both of these American League teams are currently playing let’s shift our attention to this evening’s game. New York pitcher Nestor Cortes has certainly established himself as a valuable member of the New York Yankees starting pitching rotation in 2024. Having stated that, how has Cortes been playing from a statistical standpoint? Let’s review Cortes’s recent game data to answer that question.

In the 29 games that Nestor Cortes has pitched for the New York Yankees in the 2024 MLB regular season, Cortes has posted a respectable 3.97 ERA (Earned Run Average), 1.15 WHIP (walks, hits, inning pitched) and added a whopping 147 strikeouts while allowing 33 walks.

More recently, in the New York Yankees 2-0 shutout victory over the Chicago Cubs five days ago, Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes pitched rather well. More specifically, in the Yankees win over the Cubs just mentioned, Cortes pitched five quality innings, striking out three Chicago batters while allowing no hits and one walk. It has to be said, those are the type of DFS numbers I need to see from a player that I select for the captain position.

In conclusion, I am backing New York Yankees starting pitcher Nestor Cortes as my captain for this one game MLB DFS slate.

Flex plays I like (Draftkings price noted): Cooper Criswell, Starting Pitcher, (Boston Red Sox) $10,400: Rafael Devers, Third Baseman (Boston Red Sox) $8,600: Aaron Judge, Outfielder (New York Yankees) $9,600.
