Detroit Tigers vs. Seattle Mariners
October 4, 2025 8:38 pm EDT
Later today, Major League Baseball presents Draftkings baseball fans with an American League playoff matchup featuring the Detroit Tigers and the Seattle Mariners. Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a DFS perspective.
Before we dive into the Detroit Tigers vs. Seattle Mariners game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings MLB single game showdown contest.
Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules
You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.
The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.
If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.
*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate.
Here are my Draftkings picks for this evening’s Tigers vs. Mariners matchup.
Draftkings MLB Showdown Picks
Captain-George Kirby, Starting Pitcher, Seattle Mariners $11,400
On Saturday night, Major League Baseball presents the opening game of a five-game American League playoff series featuring the Detroit Tigers and the Seattle Mariners.
How are these two teams playing entering tonight’s MLB playoff game? The Seattle Mariners arrive at the first game of this five-game series with the Detroit Tigers playing below average baseball. The Mariners have lost three of the team’s last four games played in the 2025 MLB season, including a 6-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers last week.
In direct contrast to the Seattle Mariners, the Detroit Tigers are playing good baseball entering the opening game of this MLB playoff series. Let me be more specific. The Tigers have won five of the team’s last seven games played in the 2025 MLB season, including a 6-3 win over the Cleveland Guardians two days ago.
Now that we have determined how both of these teams are currently playing let’s shift our focus to tonight’s American League playoff game. Starting pitcher George Kirby has certainly been an important part of the Seattle Mariners starting rotation this season. With that said, how has Kirby performed from a statistical perspective in 2025? Let’s review the veteran hurler’s relevant game data from the 2025 MLB season to better shed light on Kirby’s overall contributions to his team.
Through 23 starts made in 2025, Seattle Mariners starting pitcher George Kirby has compiled a 10-8 (win-loss record), a 4.21 ERA (Earned Run Average) and a 1.19 WHIP (Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched). It should also be noted that Kirby has amassed 137 strikeouts and allowed only 29 walks in 126 innings pitched this season.
More recently, in the Seattle Mariners 6-4 victory over the Houston Astros last month, George Kirby pitched six quality innings while scattering five hits and no walks. Additionally, Kirby struck out eight Houston Astros batters in the game.
What did we learn from the data just presented? Clearly, George Kirby can post a high number of DFS points on any given night. With that said, I fully expect that trend to continue in tonight’s American League playoff matchup with the Detroit Tigers.
In my view, George Kirby is the most likely player to post the most Draftkings points in this MLB playoff game. With that said, I am backing Seattle Mariners starting pitcher George Kirby at the captain position for this one game MLB DFS slate.
Flex plays I like to play well in this MLB playoff game (Draftkings price noted): Troy Melton, Starting Pitcher (Detroit Tigers) $10,800: Julio Rodriguez, Outfielder (Seattle Mariners) $9,600: Kerry Carpenter, Outfielder (Detroit Tigers) $7,600.
