Draftkings Best WNBA Showdown Picks: Mercury vs. Wings 7/3/24

Draftkings picks and predictions for tomorrow afternoon's Mercury vs. Wings matchup.

Dallas Wings vs. Phoenix Mercury
July 3, 2024 8:00 pm EDT

The WNBA presents a matchup between the Phoenix Mercury and Dallas Wings. Let’s take a look at this game from a Draftkings perspective.

Before we dive into the Phoenix Mercury and the Dallas Wings game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings single game showdown contest.

Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules

You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.

The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.

*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate. Remember, once Draftkings lineups have locked you cannot swap players.

Here are my Draftkings picks for tomorrow afternoon’s Phoenix Mercury vs. Dallas Wings matchup.

Captain-Arike Ogunbowale, Guard, Dallas Wings $10,000

Dallas guard Arike Ogunbowale has been the leader in the backcourt that the Dallas Wings have needed to win games this season. Having stated that, how has Ogunbowale been playing from an offensive standpoint? Let’s review Arike Ogunbowale’s recent game data to answer that question.

In the 15 games that Arike Ogunbowale has played for the Dallas Wings in the 2024 WNBA regular season, Ogunbowale averaged 26.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 3.1 steals a game.

Looking closer at the data just presented, in the 15 games played for the Dallas Wings this season, Arike Ogunbowale averaged a whopping 43.2 Draftkings points a game.

More recently, in the Dallas Wings 95-71 loss to the Seattle Storm two days ago, Dallas guard Arike Ogunbowale played rather well from a statistical perspective. Ogunbowale accumulated a respectable 21 points, 6 rebound, 3 assists, and 5 steals in the Seattle Storm’s win over the Dallas Wings.

From a general matchup perspective, I like Arike Ogunbowale’s matchup in this game. Ogunbowale will face a Phoenix Mercury defense that has clearly struggled on the defensive side of the basketball all season. Let me be more specific.

Through 18 games played in the 2024 WNBA regular season, the Phoenix Mercury are currently ranked a dreadful eighth in total team defensive rating (102.5), tenth in total opponent fast break points allowed a game (11.1), and ninth in total opponent second chance points allowed a game (11.5). Clearly, the defensive data just presented tells us that the Phoenix Mercury are currently not a good defensive basketball team.

In my opinion, the obvious choice at the captain position for this WNBA Draftkings showdown contest is Dallas Wings guard Arika Ogunbowale.

Flex Plays

Kahleah Copper, Guard, Phoenix Mercury $9,000

Phoenix guard Kahleah Copper has been one of the few bright spots for a Phoenix Mercury team that has struggled to start the 2024 campaign.

In the 17 games that the Phoenix Mercury have played in the 2024 WNBA regular season, Phoenix guard Kahleah Copper has averaged a robust 23.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.1 steals a game.

Additional players I like to play well this evening (Draftkings price noted): Natasha Cloud, Guard (Phoenix Mercury) $8,200: Brittney Griner, Forward (Phoenix Mercury) $9,400: Sophie Cunningham, Guard (Phoenix Mercury) $6,200: Odyssey Sims, Guard (Dallas Wings) $7,000.
