November 7, 2024 7:00 am EDT
This Thursday, Draftkings golf fans will be presented with the first round of the 2024 World Wide Technology Championship. Let’s take a look at the first round of this event from a DFS perspective.
Before I discuss my Draftkings player selections, let’s review where the first round of the 2024 World Wide Technology Championship will be played.
The first round of the 2024 World Wide Technology Championship will be played at El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos, Mexico. The golf course is a par 72 that measures approximately 7,452 yards.
I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact DFS lineup.
Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a DraftKings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!
For those readers that are not aware, the rules and scoring for DraftKings single round showdown contests are vastly different than the traditional classic contests offered by the platform.
If you need to review the specific rules for the single round showdown contests feel free to check out the DraftKings website.
Here are my DraftKings player selections for the first round of the 2024 World Wide Technology Championship.
2024 WWT Championship Draftkings First Round Picks
Matti Schmid $9,500
Matti Schmid arrives at this week’s tournament on the heels of two consecutive top five finishes on the PGA Tour, including a third-place finish at the 2024 Shriners Children’s Open three weeks ago.
J.J. Spaun $9,200
J.J. Spaun has compiled two top 25 finishes in his last three events on the PGA Tour, including an impressive sixth place result at the 2024 ZOZO Championship two weeks ago.
Ben Griffin $9,700
The talented American has accumulated two top 11 finishes in his last three tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including an 11th-place result at the 2024 Black Desert Championship four weeks ago.
Griffin also checks the box for me when it comes to key player statistics. Ben Griffin is currently ranked fifth in overall scoring average (69.16), third in total birdies made (421), eighth in par four scoring average (3.97), 14th in bogey avoidance (12.77%), and 17th in scrambling (64,46%) on the PGA Tour.
Ben Griffin has posted a good result at this week’s PGA Tour event in the past. More specifically, Griffin finished 23rd at the 2023 World Wide Technology Championship.
Matt Kuchar $8,800
Since the beginning of August, Matt Kuchar has played six events on the PGA Tour. In those six tournaments just mentioned, Kuchar tallied four top 14 finishes, including a 13th place result at the 2024 Procore Championship two months ago.
Carson Young $7,400
Last month, Carson Young fired a final round 69 at the 2024 Black Desert Championship en route to an impressive 11th place finish.
Due to Carson Young’s quality finish at the 2024 Black Desert Championship I decided to take a hard look at the relevant player statistics for the tournament to see how Young fared relative to the field.
Upon the completion of four rounds of competitive play at the 2024 Black Desert Championship, in relation to the field, Carson Young ranked eighth in driving accuracy (91.1%), ninth in bogey avoidance (5), and second in total eagles made (2).
Additionally, Carson Young finished ninth at the 2023 World Wide Technology Championship.
Additional golfers I like to perform well in the first round (Draftkings price noted): Doug Ghim $9,600: Lucas Glover $9,300: Henrik Norlander $7,600: Patton Kizzire $7,600: Austin Eckroat $7,900: Scott Piercy $7,200.
