FanDuel MLB DFS Picks: Rangers vs. Royals 8/18/25

Texas Rangers vs. Kansas City Royals
August 18, 2025 7:40 pm EDT

Later today, Major League Baseball presents FanDuel baseball fans with an American League matchup featuring the Texas Rangers vs. Kansas City Royals. Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a DFS perspective.

Before we dive into the Texas Rangers vs. Kansas City Royals game let’s review the rules for the FanDuel single game showdown contest.

FanDuel Single Game Contest Rules

Here are the FanDuel single game contest rules. You have $60,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team MVP. The MVP accumulates 1.5x times the standard FanDuel fantasy points value. Additionally, the MVP is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.

The remaining five players in your lineup will be flex plays. The five flex positions will receive the standard FanDuel points value. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your MVP position if you hope to win a large field GPP (guaranteed prize pool) FanDuel single game contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game contest, I highly recommend that you check out the FanDuel website for more details.

*It should be noted that FanDuel does not utilize the pitcher position in single game MLB contests. Having stated that, only batters are available for single game MLB lineups on the FanDuel platform.

Here are my FanDuel picks for this evening’s Rangers vs. Royals matchup.

FanDuel MLB DFS Picks

MVP-Bobby Witt Jr., Shortstop, Kansas City Royals $15,000

On Monday night, Major League Baseball presents the opening game of a three-game American League series featuring the Texas Rangers and the Kansas City Royals.

How are these two teams playing entering this MLB game? The Kansas City Royals arrive at the first game of this three-game series with the Texas Rangers playing good baseball. The Royals have won five of the team’s last six games played in the 2025 MLB regular season, including a 3-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox three days ago.

In direct contrast to the Kansas City Royals, the Texas Rangers are playing quality baseball entering tonight’s game. More specifically, the Rangers have lost eight of the team’s last ten games played in the 2025 MLB regular season, including a 2-0 shutout win over the New York Yankees last week.

Now that we have determined how both of these teams are currently playing let’s shift our focus to this evening’s contest. Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. has been a standout performer for the Kansas City Royal this season. Having stated that, how has the veteran shortstop performed from a statistical perspective? Let’s review Witt Jr.’s relevant game data from the 2025 MLB regular season to answer that question.

In the 122 games that shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. has played for the Kansas City Royals this season, Witt Jr. has compiled a .290 batting average (20th in MLB), 17 home runs, 67 RBIs (runs batted in) and 77 runs this season. Witt Jr. has also showcased his speed with 32 stolen bases in 2025.

Earlier this season, in the Kansas City Royals 9-5 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in June, Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. played exceptionally well. In the Royals victory over the Dodgers, Witt Jr. compiled four hits (one double), three runs scored and two RBIs. It should also be mentioned that in the Royals defeat of Los Angeles, Witt Jr. tallied a massive 24.6 FanDuel points.

In my opinion, Bobby Witt Jr. is the most likely player to post the most FanDuel points in today’s MLB game. With that said, I am backing Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. at the MVP position for this one game MLB DFS slate.

Flex plays I like in this game (FanDuel price noted): Wyatt Langford, Outfielder (Texas Rangers) $10,000: Vinnie Pasquantino, First Baseman (Kansas City Royals) $12,200: Eli Carter, Outfielder (Texas Rangers) $8,400.
