This week, the PGA Tour travels to north Florida for the 2021 Players Championship!

Before I discuss my favorite golf bets for this week’s PGA Tour event let’s take a look at the golf course the field will play and a few key facts that I think are relevant to the golf betting community this week.

The 2021 Players Championship will be played at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course is a par 72 that measures 7,189 yards. In my opinion, this track can be best described as a classical golf course. The TPC Sawgrass course will present this week’s field with greens that feature TifEagle Bermuda grass. Weather can also be a major factor on this track. If the wind begins to blow this week, we could see some high scores.

Key Facts

The TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course has hosted the Players Championship every year since 1982. (The tournament was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19)

Water hazards are in play on 14 of the 18 holes at TPC Sawgrass.

The TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course is a Pete Dye design.

Now it is time to get to my favorite golf bets for the 2021 Players Championship!

Here is a player to consider placing on your card to win.

Webb Simpson +2200 – I think it is safe to say that Webb Simpson enjoys playing the TPC Sawgrass Stadium course. Let me provide some relevant data to support my previous statement. Simpson has played the Players Championship three times since 2016. In those three events just mentioned, Simpson has three top 16 finishes, including a win in 2018.

It should also be noted that Simpson has played quality and consistent golf over the course of the last six months. Since the beginning of September, Simpson has played ten tournaments on the PGA Tour. In those ten events played, Simpson has an impressive eight top 17 finishes, including a sixth place result at the WGC Workday Championship @ Concession two weeks ago.

Here is a player to consider placing on your card to finish in the top ten.

Scottie Scheffler +500 – The 24 year old American arrives at this week’s Players Championship on the heels of three consecutive top 20 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a seventh place result at the Waste Management Phoenix Open last month.

Although Scheffler does not have an official result at the Players Championship yet, he was able to play one competitive round of golf on the TPC Sawgrass Stadium course. How did he do that? Well, Scottie played the first round of the Players Championship last year. However, that event was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Scheffler fired a first round 68 last year prior to the cancelation. I like the fact that Scheffler was able to get at least one look at the TPC Sawgrass course under tournament conditions.
