2021 Valero Texas Open : PGA Tour Golf Picks, Odds, Predictions 4/1/21

This week, the PGA Tour presents the 2021 Valero Texas Open.

The 2021 Valero Open will be played at TPC San Antonio (AT&T Oaks Course) in San Antonio, Texas. The AT&T Oaks Course is a par 72 that measures 7,435 yards. This course is one of the longest tracks on the PGA Tour each and every year. Most of the length from this course is due to the long par five holes. This golf course will present this week’s field with greens that are champion bermudagrass overseeded with poa trivialis and velvet bentgrass.

When I start the process of determining which golfers I will potentially place wagers on I like to review previous player data of previous winners of PGA Tour events that are consistently played on the same golf course. Doing so allows me to see which player statistics were the most important for that golfer to succeed the week he won the event. This week’s Valero Texas Open has been played at the AT&T Oaks Course for the past decade. So the Valero qualifies as an event with extensive course history to evaluate!

Having stated that, here are the key player statistics that I determined to be the most important this week: strokes gained tee to green, GIR (greens in regulation), proximity to the hole, strokes gained approach, and driving accuracy.

Let shift our focus to my favorite golf bets for the 2021 Valero Texas Open.

Here is a player to consider placing on your card to win.

Charley Hoffman +3300 – The 44 year old American arrives at this week’s Valero Texas Open in good form. Hoffman has four top 17 finishes in his last seven events played on the PGA Tour, including a seventh place result at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am last month. Hoffman has played the Valero Texas Open every year since 2014 (2020 Valero Texas Open was canceled). In those six events played, Hoffman has four top 11 finishes, including a win at the 2016 Valero Texas Open.

In relation to this week’s current listed 2021 Valero Texas Open field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Hoffman ranks first in strokes gained approach, second in strokes gained ball striking, and eighth in strokes gained tee to green.

Here is a golfer to consider placing on your card to finish in the top 20.

Graeme McDowell +500 – The 2010 U.S. Open champion’s overall results this season will not pop off the page. However, McDowell’s game has recently been trending in a positive direction. McDowell finished fourth at last week’s Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship. It should also be noted that McDowell finished seventh at the 2019 Valero Texas Open.
