This week, the PGA Tour Champions travels to Pebble Beach, California for the Pure Insurance Championship.

Before I discuss my favorite tournament matchup bet for the 2022 Pure Insurance Championship let’s take a look at the current leaders in scoring average on the PGA Tour Champions that are in this week’s field.

Top Five Golfers in Scoring Average

  1. Steven Alker 68.42
  2. Jerry Kelly 69.07
  3. Ernie Els 69.11
  4. David Toms 69.31
  5. Thongchai Jaidee 69.44

Now that we have established who the top five golfers with regard to scoring average are on the PGA Tour Champions (in this week’s field) let’s shift our attention to my favorite tournament matchup bet for this week’s 2022 Pure Insurance Championship.

Ernie Els -110 over Stephen Alker

Ernie Els arrives at this week’s Pure Insurance Championship in rather good form. Els has accumulated three consecutive top six finishes on the PGA Tour Champions, including a third place finish at the 2022 Sanford International last week.

Ernie Els also checks the box for me when it comes to key player statistics. Els currently ranks seventh in GIR (73.23%), tenth in putting average (1.753), and fourth in birdie average (4.47) on the PGA Tour Champions.

I also like the fact that Ernie Els has posted some quality results in the past at the Pebble Beach Golf Links, the site of this week’s Pure Insurance Championship. More specifically, Els finished third at the 2010 U.S. Open, 28th at the 2019 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and third at the 2020 Pure Insurance Championship.
