The Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds will begin a three-game series on Monday night.
The Pirates were just swept by the Milwaukee Brewers and have lost four of their last five games overall. As has been the case last season, the Pirates continue to struggle putting runs on the board, scoring two or less runs in four of their last seven games. The pitching is about the only thing keeping the Pirates afloat right now, and Wandy Rodriguez has to keep that going. Rodriguez is 0-2 this season and has allowed seven runs in 11 innings pitched and walked four batters. Rodriguez is 8-12 with an ERA of 4.26 in 30 career starts against the Reds.

The Reds lost two of three to the Tampa Bay Rays and have now lost four of their last six games overall. The Reds offense has also had an issue scoring runs, as they’ve scored four or less runs in seven of their last nine games. However, the Reds did produce 12 runs in their win over the Rays on Sunday. Homer Bailey will make his third start in this matchup and is 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA. Bailey has allowed four runs in each of his first two starts and is 8-5 with a 2.91 ERA in 16 career starts against the Pirates.
The Pirates are 6-1 in Rodriguez's last 7 road starts vs. a team with a losing record and 5-2 in their last 7 during game 1 of a series. The Reds are 6-2 in Bailey's last 8 starts as a favorite and 0-4 in Bailey;s last 4 starts overall. The Pirates are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Cincinnati, while the Reds are 1-5 in Baileys last 6 home starts vs. Pirates.
The Pirates are the overall better team and have beaten the Reds in their last four meetings. Not to mention Bailey has struggeld a great deal against the Pirates in his career. When you add the fact we're getting plus money, I'll take my chances with Rodriguez on the mound.
