St. Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs – 8/19/20 MLB Game 2 Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-08-19 17:20:00 EDT

The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals meet Wednesday in game two of an MLB doubleheader at Wrigley Field.

The Chicago Cubs look for a win after splitting their last eight games. The Cubs have scored 12 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last nine games. The Cubs have won eight of their last 10 games when scoring four or more runs. Ian Happ leads the Cubs with 21 hits and 13 RBI while Anthony Rizzo and Javier Baez have combined for 35 hits and 19 RBI. The Chicago Cubs didn’t list a starting pitcher at the time this article was published.

The St. Louis Cardinals need a win after losing three of their last four games. The Cardinals have scored 10 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in three of their last six games. The Cardinals are 4-1 this season when scoring four or more runs. Paul Goldschmidt leads the Cardinals with 14 hits and four RBI while Dexter Fowler and Matt Carpenter have combined for 17 hits and 12 RBI. The St. Louis Cardinals didn’t list a starting pitcher at the time this article was published.

Will update with trends once they’re released.

As I’ve said many times in the past, it’s not easy to predict the second game of a doubleheader without knowing what happened in the first contest. It’s even tougher not knowing the pitching matchup of the clubs. With that said, we can only go off what these teams have shown us lately, and the Cubs have been far and away more promising, even if they’ve cooled off a bit over the last week. The St. Louis Cardinals still look like a team that’s struggling to find a rhythm after missing so much time, and their offense has been nonexistent for the most part. The Cardinals are 30th in runs per game, 23rd in batting average and 25th in OPS. It’s hard to get behind the Cardinals until the bats heat up.

I’ll back the Chicago Cubs in the second game based on current form.
