Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Colorado Rockies – 8/27/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-08-27 18:10:00 EDT

The Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet Thursday in MLB action from Chase Field.

This will be the final matchup of a four-game series between these teams this week. The Rockies took the first pair, 3-2 Monday and 5-4 Tuesday. In the Wednesday game, we had a wild one, as 11 runs were scored over the final two innings. The Rockies ended up hanging on for an 8-7 win despite coughing up the final six runs. The Rockies had a commanding 8-1 lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning on Wednesday, but saw that lead nearly evaporate. Jeff Hoffman came in to record the final out and bag the save with a walk and a strikeout.

For the Thursday start, Colorado will turn to Kyle Freeland on the mound. This year, Freeland has a 2-1 record in six starts, with a 2.87 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 37.2 innings of work. Across his MLB career, Freeland has a 33-30 record with a 4.05 ERA and 383 strikeouts in 500.1 innings.

Over on the Diamondbacks’ side, they fell just short of an epic comeback on Wednesday, and did all that scoring without the aid of a home run. Christian Walker led the way for the offense with three hits and four RBI.

For the Thursday starting role, the Diamondbacks are going with Zac Gallen. Over six starts without a decision this year, Gallen has a 2.25 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 36.0 frames. Gallen owns a 3-6 record over his MLB career, with a 2.64 ERA and 138 Ks in 116.0 innings.

The Rockies are 16-37 in their last 53 road games and 15-38 in their last 53 games as a road underdog. Colorado is 1-6 in their last seven Thursday games and the over is 14-2 in the last 16 Thursday games.

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 17-35 in their last 52 during game four of a series and 2-5 in their last seven Thursday games. the under is 5-1 in Arizona’s last six during game four of a series and the under is 6-2 in their last eight Thursday games.

Pick: I’m going to take a chance on the Diamondbacks here, even though I think the line is fairly thick. Granted, it’s going to be difficult for Arizona to break past Freeland, who has quality start in all six outings so far this year. Freeland is also great at getting batters to hit into double plays, so he can extinguish trouble before it gets out of hand. That said, Gallen has been really good for Arizona so far, and allowed two runs over seven innings with no walks in a start versus Colorado this season. It’s likely going to be another close game, though.
