Detroit Tigers vs. Minnesota Twins – 8/27/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-08-27 19:10:00 EDT

The Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers meet in an AL Central division matchup in MLB action from Comerica Park on Thursday.

The Minnesota Twins will be out to rebound from a 6-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians in their last game on Wednesday. Max Kepler had a solo home run while Lamonte Wade Jr. and Jake Cave each had an RBI to round out the Twins’ scoring with Cave going 2 for 3 at the dish. Luis Arraez went 2 for 4 while Miguel Sano and Ehire Adrianza each had a double. Marwin Gonzalez and Eddie Rosario each contributed a base hit as well to finish off Minnesota’s offense as a team in defeat. Jose Berrios gave up three runs on seven hits while striking out six over 5.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Sergio Romo took the loss in relief, falling to 0-1 on the year. Randy Dobnak will start here and is 5-1 with a 1.78 ERA and 16 strikeouts this season. This will be Dobnak’s second career start against Detroit.

The Detroit Tigers will try to build off of their 7-6 win over the Chicago Cubs last time out. Austin Romine and Niko Goodrum each had a double and two RBIs while Jonathan Schoop, Miguel Cabrera and Jeimer Candelario each had an RBI with Cabrera and Schoop each logging three hits while Candelario had a pair of hits in the win. Cameron Maybin went 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles while Jorge Bonifacio went 2 for 5 and Victor Reyes added a base hit as well in the victory. Joe Jimenez got the win in relief for the Tigers in the 6th after Michael Fulmer and Daniel Norris combined for the first five innings. Matthew Boyd will start here and is 0-4 with an 8.48 ERA and 33 strikeouts this season. In his career, Boyd is 7-6 with a 4.86 ERA and 104 strikeouts against Minnesota.

Minnesota is 7-3 in their last 10 games overall and 35-17 in their last 52 road games while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games following a loss. Detroit is 19-62 in their last 81 home games and 14-58 in their last 72 games as a home underdog while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 series opening games. The over is 9-3-1 in the last 13 meetings between these two teams.

The total here is tough as you just had the Twins struggle against the Indians while the Tigers smashed the Cubs when common logic would reverse the two. With that said, I’m going to side with the under as I think Dobnak continues to roll and Boyd is long overdue for a semi-decent start so give me the under as my free pick for this game but my stronger play is on the side and I have that available as a premium pick that you can find here.
