St. Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs Game 2 – 9/5/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-09-05 20:15:00 EDT

The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals meet Saturday in game two of an MLB doubleheader at Wrigley Field.

The Chicago Cubs look for a win after winning five of their last seven games. The Cubs have scored 14 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last nine games. The Cubs have won five of their last eight games when scoring four or more runs. Ian Happ leads the Cubs with 38 hits and 22 RBI while Willson Contreras and Anthony Rizzo have combined for 60 hits and 34 RBI. The Chicago Cubs didn’t list  starting pitcher at the time this article was published.

The St. Louis Cardinals need a win after losing six of their last nine games. The Cardinals have scored 20 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in six of their last 12 games. The Cardinals have won eight of their last nine games when scoring four or more runs. Paul Goldschmidt leads the Cardinals with 30 hits and 11 RBI while Tommy Edman and Yadier Molina have combined for 51 hits and 24 RBI. Dakota Hudson gets the ball, and he is 1-2 with a 2.77 ERA and 23 strikeouts this season. Hudson is 0-0 with a 2.89 ERA and 15 strikeouts in his career against the Cubs.

Will update with trends once they’re released.

Dakota Hudson has allowed four earned runs and 10 hits in his last 21.2 innings, and he’s allowing a .187 batting average and .253 on base percentage on the season. In 23 career at bats against current Cubs hitters, Hudson is allowing a .167 batting average and .300 on base percentage with 12 strikeouts. Small sample size, but there’s a lot to like about Hudson in this matchup. Of course, tough to pick the second game of a doubleheader without knowing what happened in the first contest, but the Cardinals have a favorable pitcher on the mound for this second contest.

I’ll take my chances with the St. Louis Cardinals in this game, especially if we can get plus money or close to it.
