Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals – 9/6/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-09-06 13:10:00 EDT

The Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves meet Sunday in MLB action from SunTrust Park.

This will be the final matchup in a four-game set between these teams this weekend. Each got a win in the Friday doubleheader, Braves 7-1 and Nationals 10-9. In the Saturday game three, the Nationals took the lead in the series with a big 10-4 victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks and MLB predictions at Sports Chat Place.

The Nationals posted 14 hits to Atlanta’s six in the Saturday win, mostly due to a five-run ninth inning that pretty much sealed things. Left fielder Brock Holt led the charge with four hits, an RBI and two runs. Starting pitcher Erick Fedde managed 3.2 innings with six hits, four earned, four walks, three homers allowed and two strikeouts.

For the Sunday starting pitcher role, the Nationals will send out Patrick Corbin. Over his seven starts this year, Corbin is 2-3 with a 3.79 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 40.1 innings. On his career, Corbin is 72-64 with a 3.80 ERA and 1171 Ks in 1188.0 innings.

Over on the Braves’ side, they got a trio of homers accounting for four runs on Saturday in the loss, but it wasn’t enough. Travis d’Arnaud had the two-run shot, with two hits. Starter Max Fried went 5.0 innings with four Ks, three earned and five hits with three walks.

For Sunday’s starting job, the Braves are sending Josh Tomlin out to the mound. Over 11 games and three starts in 2020, Tomlin is 1-2 with a 4.37 ERA and 24 Ks in 22.2 innings. On his MLB career, Tomlin is 64-56 with a 4.68 ERA and 687 Ks in 1000.2 frames total.

The Nationals are 2-5 in their last seven Sunday games and 5-21 in their last 26 games versus a right-handed starter. Washington is 27-10 in their last 37 games versus a team with a winning record and the over is 5-0 in their last five during game four of a series.

Meanwhile, the Braves are 43-15 in their last 58 games as a home favorite and 44-17 in their last 61 Sunday games. Atlanta is 50-23 in their last 73 home games and 1-5 in their last six during game four of a series.

Pick: Going Nationals here. Speculation says that this will be Tomlin’s final start before moving back to the bullpen. He managed just two runs in 11.1 innings as a reliever but has coughed up four home runs in his past two starts. As for Corbin, he tallied 22 strikeouts in 16 innings versus the Braves last year, and should matchup well. He was 1-1 versus Atlanta in 2019 with a 2.81 ERA, so I like Corbin’s chances in this one.
