New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies – 9/7/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-09-07 13:10:00 EDT

The Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets meet in an NL East division matchup in MLB action from Citi Field on Monday.

The Philadelphia Phillies will try to rebound from a 14-1 loss to the Mets on Sunday. Andrew Knapp’s second inning home run was the lone RBI that the Phillies would plate in the losing effort with Neil Walker adding a double while Bryce Harper and Kyle Garlick each had a base hit to finish off Philly’s offense as the Phils had just four hits as a team in the losing effort. Aaron Nola took the loss, falling to 4-3 after allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out ten over 5.1 innings of work. Zack Wheeler will start here and is 4-0 with a 2.20 ERA and 29 strikeouts this season. This will be Wheeler’s second career start against the Mets.

The New York Mets will look to pile on after dismantling the Phillies on Sunday. Pete Alonso and Dominic Smith each had three RBIs with Alonso going 3 for 5 with a pair of home runs while Smith went 4 for 5 with three doubles. Andres Gimenez and Luis Guillorme each had two RBIs with Guillorme adding a double while Jeff McNeil, Wilson Ramos and Brandon Nimmo all had solo home runs to finish off the scoring for the Mets in the victory. Michael Conforto went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles as well to cap off the offense for the Mets in the winning effort. Jacob deGrom got the win to improve to 3-1 after allowing the one run on three hits while striking out 12 over seven innings of work. David Peterson will start here and he is 4-1 with a 3.03 ERA and 21 strikeouts this season. This will be Peterson’s first career start against the Phillies.

Philadelphia is 10-2 in their last 12 games overall and 4-1 in their last 5 road games while the over is 10-1-3 in their last 14 Monday games. New York is 1-4 in their last 5 games against a right-handed starter and 14-6 in their last 20 home games against a team with a winning record while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 Monday games. Philadelphia is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.

I’m thinking that the Phillies can’t be as bad as they were on Sunday, and I think the offenses could wake up here for the Phillies. I’m not sure that the Mets put up 14 runs again, but they know Wheeler from his time with the team up until last year and know how he pitches. I think this one shoots over the total so I’ll back the over as my free pick for this game but my stronger play is on the side and I have that available as a premium pick that you can find here.
