Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Los Angeles Dodgers – 9/10/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-09-10 21:40:00 EDT

The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet Thursday in MLB action from Chase Field.

This will be the third and final installment of the series between these teams this week. The Dodgers eked out a 10-9 victory in the Tuesday game. On Wednesday in game two, we had a 10-inning battle as the Dodgers powered out another close win 6-4. Check back all season long for free MLB picks and MLB predictions at Sports Chat Place.

The Dodgers out-hit the Diamondbacks 9-6 in the Wednesday win, and took advantage of some opportunistic offense. AJ Pollock led the way on three hits, a run and an RBI, and starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw went 5.0 innings with four hits, three earned, two walks and three strikeouts.

For the Thursday starting pitcher job, the Dodgers will send out Dustin May. In eight starts this season, May is 1-1 with a 2.88 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 40.2 innings. May is 3-4 in 22 games (12 starts) over his MLB career, with a 3.23 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 75.1 innings.

Over on the Diamondbacks’ side, starting pitcher Taylor Clarke got into some trouble on Wednesday, posting six hits, four earned and two homers allowed in 6.0 innings. Nick Ahmed was the only Arizona player with multiple hits, going 2-for-4.

In the Thursday start, Arizona will send Madison Bumgarner out to the mound. Bumgarner is 0-4 in five starts during 2020, posting an 8.44 ERA with 15 Ks in 21.1 innings. On his career, Bumgarner is 119-96 with a 3.19 ERA and 1809 Ks in 1867.1 innings.

The Dodgers are 40-14 in their last 54 games as a favorite and 40-15 in their last 55 overall. Los Angeles is also 37-14 in their last 51 Thursday games and 70-27 in their last 97 during game three of a series.

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 8-20 in their last 28 versus the National League West and 1-4 in their last five Thursday games. Arizona is 0-6 in their last six during game three of a series and the under is 4-0 in their last four Thursday games.

Pick: It might be worth taking a shot on the Diamondbacks here. Granted, Los Angeles is set up pretty well with May, who can devastate hitters with a 100-mph sinker and a filthy slurve, but if the hitters can cobble together a few runs I think Bumgarner can hold it together on the other side. Though his numbers this year are ugly, Bumgarner had a nice first start off the IL versus the Giants. With him on the mound, this may be a spot to try Arizona on a potentially high-reward value play.
