Oakland Athletics vs. Houston Astros – 9/10/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-09-10 15:40:00 EDT

The Houston Astros and the Oakland A’s meet in an AL West division matchup in MLB action from Ring Central Coliseum on Thursday afternoon.

The Houston Astros come into this one looking to rebound from a 3-2 loss to Oakland on Wednesday. All of Houston’s offense came via the long ball as George Springer went 2 for 4 with a solo home run and Yuli Gurriel added a solo shot as well. Carlos Correa chipped in a base hit of his own as Houston mustered up just four hits as a team in the losing effort. Luis Garcia threw five shutout innings, giving up just one hit and striking out four, not factoring in the decision. Ryan Pressly took the loss in relief, falling to 1-2 on the year as a result. Jose Urquidy will start here and is 0-0 with a 4.91 ERA and 2 strikeouts this season. This will be Urquidy’s second career start against Oakland.

The Oakland A’s will look to build on their victory over Houston with a quick turnaround here. Tommy La Stella went 2 for 5 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs while Ramon Laureano had an RBI as well to cap off Oakland’s scoring as a team in the win. Mark Canha had a double while Matt Olson added a base hit as well in the victory as Oakland had just five hits as a team in the win. Jesus Luzardo allowed two runs on four hits while striking out seven over seven innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Sean Manaea will start here and is 3-2 with a.509 ERA and 30 strikeouts this season. In his career, Manaea is 2-5 with a 3.48 ERA and 58 strikeouts against Houston.

Houston is 1-6 in their last 7 games overall and 2-8 in their last 10 games as a road underdog while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a left-handed starter. Oakland is 16-7 in their last 23 home games against a team with a winning record and 42-17 in their last 59 home games while the under is 34-16-2 in their last 52 games against a team with a winning record.

I honestly don’t know what we’re going to see from Urquidy after just one start so far this year and Manaea is always a wild card as he can thitem a gem or a dud on any given night. With that said, I think Oakland knows the magnitude of what this game could mean as a win in this spot could help Oakland take a massive step towards locking up the division. The Astros just don’t look like the Astros we’ve gotten used to seeing over the years and I question this team’s ability to make a run in the playoffs with a patchwork pitching staff. Give me Oakland to get the job done here.
