Miami Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies – 9/12/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-09-12 18:10:00 EDT

The Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Marlins meet Saturday in MLB action from Marlins Park.

This will be the fourth outing of a monster seven-game set between these teams over the weekend. On Thursday, the Marlins eked out a 7-6 win. In the doubleheader on Friday, we had a split. Philadelphia took the first game in a dominant outing 11-0. Miami struck back in the nightcap however, posting a 5-3 win. The Phillies drilled Miami in the first game on Friday, out-hitting the Marlins 13-3. Starting pitcher Aaron Nola went the distance in that one, going 7.0 innings with three hits and 10 strikeouts. Rhys Hoskins managed a homer, three RBI, two hits and two runs in that one as well.

In the Saturday starting pitcher role, the Phillies will send out Spencer Howard. This is the 24-year-old Howard’s first season of MLB action. So far, he’s compiled five starts with a 1-2 record, a 5.66 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 20.2 innings.

Over on the Marlins’ side, they were out-hit 11-10 in the game two win on Friday, and were able to prevail due to a three-run fourth inning. Starting pitcher Daniel Castano went 3.2 innings with five hits, one run (no earned), one walk and one strikeout.

In Saturday’s starter job, the Marlins will send Jose Urena to the hill. Urena has just one start to his credit in 2020, going 5.0 innings with two strikeouts and a 5.40 ERA without a decision. On his MLB career, Urena is 32-43 with a 4.57 ERA and 383 Ks in 578.2 innings.

The Phillies are 4-0 in their last four during game four of a series and 12-4 in their last 16 versus the National League East. Philadelphia is also 6-2 in their last eight Saturday games and 7-15 in their last 22 road games.

Meanwhile, the Marlins are 20-41 in their last 61 games as a home underdog and 22-46 in their last 68 versus a team with a winning record. Miami is 4-15 in their last 19 Saturday games and the under is 12-4-3 in their last 19 during game four of a series.

Pick: I’m going to take a shot on the Marlins here, but this is probably one I’m staying away from. Urena is just 3-5 with a 4.27 ERA in 17 career games (12 starts) versus the Phillies, but if he can take another step in his comeback and put up a solid start here the Marlins should be okay. Howard has gone five innings just once in his five starts and needs to get his mechanics figured out. There could be some good spots here for the Marlins, but it should be another tight game.
