New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles – 9/12/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees meet Saturday in MLB action from Yankee Stadium.

This will be the third matchup in a four-game set between these American League East teams this weekend. After a rainout on Thursday, we got a doubleheader on Friday. In those opening games, New York took both. After a 6-0 win in game one, the Yankees went on to a dominant 10-1 victory in the nightcap. The Orioles mustered just two hits in game one on Friday versus Gerrit Cole, who is now 5-3 on the year. Baltimore’s luck wasn’t much better with four hits in game two, as starting pitcher Keegan Akin went just 0.2 innings with three hits, four earned, one walk and one strikeout.

For the Saturday starting pitcher job, the Orioles will send out Dean Kremer. This is the 24-year-old Kremer’s first season of MLB action. In his first start, Kremer got a win with 6.0 innings and seven strikeouts on a 1.50 ERA and 0.67 WHIP.

Over on the Yankees’ side, Masahiro Tanaka got a nice win in the second game on Friday, going 5.0 innings with three hits, one earned and five strikeouts. Luke Voit carried the offense in that one, slapping a pair of three-run homers with three runs and three hits on the evening. Gleyber Torres finished with two hits, a run and an RBI there as well.

For the starter outing on Saturday, the Yankees are sending Jordan Montgomery to the hill. Over seven starts and a 2-2 record, Montgomery holds a 5.72 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 28.1 innings of work. On his MLB career, Montgomery is 13-9 with a 4.14 ERA and 195 Ks in 215.0 innings.

The Orioles are 7-1 in the last eight Saturday games and 35-73 in their last 108 during game three of a series. Baltimore is 6-13 in their last 19 games versus a left-handed starter and 57-126 in their last 183 games as a road underdog.

Meanwhile, the Yankees are 63-20 in their last 83 games as a home favorite and 36-15 in their last 51 during game three of a series. New York is 68-33 in their last 101 versus the American League East and the under is 4-0 in their last four during game three of a series.

Pick: I’m taking a shot on the Orioles here. Montgomery has been pretty sketchy over the last month, posting an 0-1 record with a 6.39 ERA over his past four starts. This will be his first look at Baltimore this year, but the O’s hitters should have ample opportunities to get on base. Given the Yankees’ shaky bullpen, offense and fielding during this skid, they’re no longer a lockup pick versus Baltimore—or anyone. Kremer did just fine against them in his MLB debut with six innings and seven Ks. New York displayed a dominant effort in the Friday doubleheader, but this would be a good spot for the O’s to get a win if it’s going to come this weekend.
