Colorado Rockies vs. Los Angeles Angels – 9/13/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-09-13 15:10:00 EDT

The Los Angeles Angels and the Colorado Rockies meet Sunday in MLB action from Coors Field.

This will be the third and final matchup in a three-game weekend series between these teams. The Rockies took a win in the Friday game one 8-4. In the Saturday game, we had a lengthy 11-inning battle as the Angels outlasted the Rockies with a 5-2 win to even up the set. The Angels had eight hits to the Rockies’ six in the Saturday game, but couldn’t really get much going until the 11th frame with their three runs there. Jared Walsh topped the team on two hits and a three run homer, while starting pitcher Jaime Barria went 5.1 innings with six hits, two earned, two walks and two strikeouts.

For the Sunday starting pitcher role, the Angels will send Andrew Heaney to the mound. In his nine starts this year, Heaney is 3-3 with a 4.04 ERA and 51 Ks in 49.0 innings. Over his MLB career, Heaney is 23-29 with a 4.40 ERA and 481 strikeouts in 487.0 innings of work.

Over on the Rockies’ side, Saturday starting pitcher Kyle Freeland had a nice outing spoiled on Saturday with 6.0 innings, four hits, two earned, two walks and four strikeouts. Trevor Story was the only Colorado player with multiple hits, going 2-for-5 with a strikeout and two men left on base.

In the Sunday starter job, the Rockies are going with Ryan Castellani. Over his seven games and six starts in 2020, Castellani is 1-2 with a 5.34 ERA and 19 Ks in 28.2 innings. This is the 24-year-old Castellani’s first season of MLB action.

The Angels are 8-21 in their last 29 during game three of a series and 8-21 in the last 29 road games versus a right-handed starter. Los Angeles is 1-8 in their last nine Sunday games and the over is 36-13-3 in their last 52 during game three of a series.

Meanwhile, the Rockies are 38-78 in their last 116 interleague games as an underdog and 3-7 in their last 10 during game three of a series. The over is 6-0 in Colorado’s last six Sunday games and 8-1 in their last nine during game three of a series.

Pick: Going with the Angels in the finale. Granted, Heaney had a bad start his last time out versus the Rangers on Tuesday, logging five runs (three earned) in five innings. That said, Heaney had a nice run going before that with just one run allowed over his prior 14.2 innings of work. As for Castellani, he went 4.1 innings in his last start and had trouble closing out at-bats. I think Heaney has a better chance at bouncing back here, but if Castellani can get his rhythm back this one could get interesting.
