The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Angels meet in MLB action from Angel Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to build off of a 9-6 win over the Angels in their last outing. Kole Calhoun, David Peralta and Nick Ahmed each had two RBIs with Calhoun belting a two-run home run and Peralta put out a solo home run as well in the win. Stephen Vogt and Daulton Varsho each had an RBI to finish off the scoring for Arizona in the win column. Christian Walker added a double and Josh Rojas each had a base hit to round out the offense for the D-Backs in the win. Taylor Clarke got the win in relief to improve to 2-0 as a result on the year. Alex Young will start here and is 2-3 with a 4.42 ERA and 32 strikeouts this season. This will be Young’s first career start against the Angels.
The Los Angeles Angels will look to rebound from another heartbreaker loss to Arizona on Wednesday. Max Stassi went 3 for 4 with a double and a two-run home run while Jared Walsh, Mike Trout, Anthony Rendon and Justin Upton all had RBIs to make up the scoring output for Los Angeles last time out. Andrelton Simmons also had two hits and David Fletcher added a base hit as well to cap off the Halos’ offense as a team in the victory. Dylan Bundy took the loss, falling to 5-3 on the year after allowing five earned runs on six hits over 2.2 innings of work. Griffin Canning will start here and is 0-3 with a 4.57 ERA and 39 strikeouts this season. This will be Canning’s first career start against Arizona.
Arizona is 7-19 in their last 26 road games and 4-11 in their last 15 games as an underdog while the under is 10-3 in their last 13 road games. Los Angeles is 4-1 in their last 5 home games and 2-6 in their last 8 interleague home games while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 interleague home games against a team with a losing record. Arizona is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I get why the Angels would be favored, I think… but I’m not laying any juice with the Angels when the Diamondbacks have been the better team of the two in the first two games of this series. Alex Young’s also shown us one key detail that he can win games this season which is something we’ve yet to see from Canning. Give me Arizona and the plus money in this one.
