The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Washington Nationals meet Thursday in MLB action from Nationals Park.

The Diamondbacks are coming off a pair of games versus the A’s this week. Arizona lost both of those by a combined 16-10 score. As for the Nationals, they played the Cardinals this week. After splitting the first two games, on Wednesday Washington took the series with a shutout win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Arizona took a pair of losses this week in their games versus Oakland. Monday’s game was a 9-5 defeat, and on Tuesday the Diamondbacks fell 7-5. Starter Zac Gallen went 4.0 innings with three hits, two walks, one earned and eight strikeouts in the Tuesday matchup.

For the Thursday game, the Diamondbacks will send out Merrill Kelly as the starter. Through two outings so far this year, Kelly has an 8.10 ERA with 14 hits, nine earned, three walks and five strikeouts through 10.0 total innings of work.

Over on the Nationals’ side, they managed a 5-2 victory on Monday over the Cardinals, but then got drilled 14-3 in the Tuesday game. On Wednesday, Washington scored twice in both the third and fifth innings on the way to a 6-0 win. Starter Joe Ross put up 6.0 innings with four hits, one walk and five Ks.

For the Thursday starting pitcher role, the Nationals will send out Patrick Corbin. In his lone start this year April 10 versus the Dodgers, Corbin went 4.1 innings with six earned, six hits, one homer, three walks and five strikeouts.

The Diamondbacks are 4-1 in their last five after an off day and 2-5 in their last seven overall. Arizona is 1-5 in their last six Thursday games and 7-20 in their last 27 road games.

Meanwhile, the Nationals are 44-21 in their last 65 games as a home favorite and 0-4 in their last four Thursday games. The under is 4-1 in the Nationals’ last five Thursday games and 6-1 in their last seven in game one of a series.

PICK: I’m going to take the Nationals, but probably staying away. Washington’s offense has been hit and miss so far this year, and they’ve put up a few goose eggs on the scoreboard here and there. (The six runs on Wednesday were nice, however.) The Nationals should have a few opportunities for runs with Kelly on the mound, and if they can get off to a good start I think they’ll have enough gas to bag a win. Should be an interesting series.
