The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Washington Nationals duke it out in MLB action from Nationals Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to bounce back after ending up on the wrong end of a 1-0 decision against the Nationals in Friday’s matchup. Tim Locastro leads the D-Backs with a .260 batting average and a .339 OBP in addition to 13 hits while Eduardo Escobar has a team-high 5 home runs and 9 RBIs. Asdrubal Cabrera has 3 double with 9 RBIs of his own and David Peralta has a pair of triples with 7 RBIs in 47 Abs for the D-Backs this season. Luke Weaver is expected to get the start here for Arizona and is 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA and 11 strikeouts this season. This will be Weaver’s second career start against Washington.
The Washington Nationals will be out to add another notch to the win column after Friday’s win over Arizona. Juan Soto leads the Nationals with a .350 batting average along with a .447 OBP and 14 hits while Starlin Castro has a team-high 8 RBIs in 11 games so farand Soto and Trea Turner each have a team-high two home runs up to this point for the Nats. Turner also leads Washington with 3 doubles and is 2nd with 10 strikeouts while Victor Robles leads Washington with 12 K’s this season. Erick Fedde is expected to start here and is 0-1 with an 8.53 ERA and 6 strikeouts this season. This will be Fedde’s second career start against Arizona.
Arizona is 5-2 in their last 7 games as a favorite and 7-19 in their last 26 road games while the over is 5-0-1 in their last 6 games against the NL East. Washington is 6-2 in their last 8 games as a home underdog and 0-4 in their last 4 games against the NL West while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 home games. The over is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
Seeing one run between the two teams on Friday could make you think under for a second straight game. However, while Fedde has slowly improved over the course of the season, he’s still hard to trust long-term and the Nationals are struggling, they just got the benefit of an off-hitting day from the D-Backs. Luke Weaver looked like the top piece that the D-Backs traded for a couple of years ago in his last outing against the Reds and I think Weaver could stifle the Washington order here and guide Arizona to a win in this one.
