The Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees meet in MLB action from Yankee Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Detroit Tigers will look to bounce back from a 6-4 loss to the Yankees on Saturday. Jeimer Candelario leads the Tigers with a .279 batting average and 29 hits with 5 doubles while Robbie Grossman leads the Tigers with a .360 batting average and 20 walks as well this season. Wilson Ramos has a team-high 6 home runs and Akil Baddoo has a team-high 13 RBIs with 3 triples as well for the Tigers on the year. Jose Urena is expected to start here for the Tigers and is 1-3 ith a 3.77 ERA and 21 strikeouts this season. In his career, Urena is 0-1 with a 2.16 ERA and 3 strikeouts against the Yankees.
The New York Yankees will look to build on their win over the Tigers on Saturday. Aaron Judge leads the Yankees with a .291 batting average, a .396 OBP, 7 home runs and 18 RBI while DJ LeMahieu has 28 hits with a team-high 5 doubles, sharing the lead in doubles with Gleyber Torres. Giancarlo Stanton also has 6 home runs and 15 RBIs while Gio Urshela’s got 4 home runs and 16 RBIs this season. Corey Kluber’s expected to start here and is 1-2 with a 4.15 ERA and 19 strikeouts this season. In his career, Kluber is 12-7 with a 3.48 ERA and 173 strikeouts against Detroit.
Detroit is 28-57 in their last 85 games against a team with a losing record and 14-38 in their last 52 games overall while the under is 7-2-1 in their last 10 games as an underdog. New York is 17-5 in their last 22 games against the AL Central and 82-36 in their last 118 home games while the under is 19-7 in their last 26 games as a favorite.
I get the case that could be made for either side in this one as the Tigers will always have an extreme amount of plus money with them and the Yankees are the Yankees, but the fact of the matter is that Kluber’s not the ace type pitcher he once was and I’ve seen Jose Urena get tossed around more often than not in his career. Instead, I’m siding with the over here as I just want no part of either start here and I think the offenses come through once again on Sunday.
