The Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays meet in an AL East division matchup in MLB action from Tropicana Field on Wednesday night.

The Boston Red Sox will look to build on a 9-5 win in extra innings against the Rays on Tuesday. Rafael Devers and Hunter Renfroe each had two hits with three RBIs, with Devers logging a pair of doubles while Renfroe had a home run. J.D. Martinez had a double and two RBIs and Enrique Hernandez added a double and an RBI as well in the win to cap off the scoring for the Red Sox. Xander Bogaerts went 3 for 5 at the dish while Danny Santana and Alex Verdugo each had a base hit to finish off the offense for the Sox in the win. Eduardo Rodriguez gave up five runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out seven over six innings of work, not factoring into the decision. Darwinzon Hernandez got the win in relief to improve to 2-2 on the year. Garrett Richards will start here and is 4-4 with a 4.36 ERA and 64 strikeouts this season. in his career, Richards is 3-1 with a 4.22 ERA and 19 strikeouts against Tampa Bay.

The Tampa Bay Rays will look to bounce back from their loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday. Wander Franco made quite the big league debut, belting a three-run home run and a double while Francisco Mejia had an RBI as well. Randy Arozarena went 3 for 5 at the dish and Yandy Diaz added a pair of hits as well to finish off the offense for the Rays in the losing effort. Peter Fairbanks took the loss in relief to fall to 1-3 on the year as a result. Rich Hill will start here and is 5-2 with a 3.64 ERA and 73 strikeouts this season. This will be Hill’s second career start against Boston.

Boston is 5-0 in their last 5 games as a road underdog and 17-5 in their last 22 division games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games as an underdog. Tampa Bay is 51-18 in their last 69 games as a home favorite and 47-19 in their last 66 division games while the over is 3-1-2 in their last 6 games as a favorite. Boston is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.

I get the case that could be made for both sides in this one, as Boston’s been good on the road all year long and Tampa Bay has been really good in their own right. With that said, both Richards and Hill have struggled as of late and I think the offenses could show up once again like they did on Tuesday. Give me the over here.
