The Miami Marlins and the Atlanta Braves meet in an NL East division matchup in MLB action from Truist Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Miami Marlins will attempt to build on their 3-2 win over the Braves from Saturday’s action. Garrett Cooper led the charge with a solo home run, going 2 for 4 with two RBIs while Jazz Chisholm Jr. added an RBI as well to make up the rest of the scoring for the Fish in the winning effort. Jesus Sanchez and Jon Berti each had base hits to cap off Miami’s offense as the Marlins had just five hits as a team in the winning effort. Sandy Alcantara got the win to improve to 5-7 on the year after tossing six innings, giving up just an unearned run on five hits. Yimi Garcia closed out the 9th to pick up his 13th save of the season. Zach Thompson will start here and is 2-2 with a 1.50 ERA and 25 strikeouts this season. This will be Thompson’s second career start against Atlanta.

The Atlanta Braves will try to bounce back from their defeat at the hands of the Marlins from Saturday. Freddie Freeman went 3 for 3 with an RBI and Ozzie Albies added a pair of hits with an RBI as well to cap off the scoring for Atlanta in the loss. Dansby Swanson, Guillermo Heredia and Abraham Almonte each had base hits as well as none of Atlanta’s eight hits went for extra bases in the losing effort. Kyle Muller took the loss, falling to 1-2 on the year after allowing all three runs on four hits while walking four and striking out seven over 5.2 innings of work. Charlie Morton will start here and is 7-3 with a 3.74 ERA and 100 strikeouts this season. In his career, Morton is 7-5 with a 4.27 ERA and 73 strikeouts against Miami.

Miami is 7-15 in their last 22 games as an underdog and 3-7 in their last 10 games overall while the under is 10-1 in their last 11 Sunday games. Atlanta is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 6-1 in their last 7 games following a loss while the under is 7-1-1 in their last 9 games overall. The under is 3-1-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

This is a stellar pitching matchup between two of the more underrated starters in their respective rotations. Zach Thompson’s been a bright spot for Miami and Charlie Morton has pitched extremely well with an ERA under three on the season. I’m still not trusting Miami’s offense consistently and Atlanta is really a team that you don’t know what you’re going to get from them on a daily basis, so give me the under in what I think ends up being a pitcher’s duel.
