The Washington Nationals and the San Diego Padres meet in MLB action from Petco Park on Monday night.

The Washington Nationals will look to bounce back from a 5-1 loss at the hands of the Dodgers in their last game. Starlin Castro went 2 for 4 with a double and the Nationals’ lone RBI while Alcides Escobar went 3 for 4 with a double as well. Tres Barrera, Josh Bell and Juan Soto each had base hits as well to finish off the offense for Washington in the loss. Joe Ross ended up with the loss, falling to 5-8 on the year after allowing three runs on seven hits with 11 strikeouts over 6.2 innings of work. Jon Lester will start here and is 2-3 with a 5.34 ERA and 39 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lester is 3-1 with a 4.24 ERA and 42 strikeouts against San Diego.

The San Diego Padres will attempt to build on an 11-1 rout over the Phillies in their last game. Manny Machado led the charge, going 2 for 2 with a pair of home runs and give RBIs while Webster Rivas and Eric Hosmer each had three RBIs with Rivas adding a home run as well and Hosmer going 2 for 5 with a double to finish off the scoring for the Padres in the win. Jurickson Profar went 4 for 5 at the dish while Jake Cronenworth and Fernando Tatis Jr. each had two hits with a double. Blake Snell and Trent Grisham each had a base hit as well to cap off the offense for the Padres in the winning effort. Blake Snell threw four shutout innings, giving up just two hits while striking out three, not factoring in the decision. Austin Adams got the win in relief to improve to 3-2 on the year as a result. Joe Musgrove will start here and is 5-6 with a 2.63 ERA and 106 strikeouts this season. In his career, Musgrove is 0-2 with a 5.73 ERA and 12 strikeouts against Washington.

Washington is 0-4 in their last 4 games overall and 5-2 in their last 7 road games while the under is 12-2 in their last 14 series-opening games. San Diego is 11-4 in their last 15 games overall and 47-23 in their last 70 home games while the over is 4-0 in their iast 4 home games. The under is 11-5-4 in the last 20 meetings between these two teams.

I was initially leaning the way of the Nationals, but the issue is that they didn’t look all that great against the Dodgers. San Diego was disappointing in their own right against the Phillies, but they’re a tough out at home and in a pitchers’ park, Joe Musgrove is going to be a tough out. I think the Padres get the job done at home here, so I’ll side with San Diego in this one.
