The Los Angeles Angels and the Seattle Mariners meet in an AL West division matchup in MLB action from T-Mobile Park on Friday night.

The Los Angeles Angels will look to build on their 5-4 win over the Boston Red Sox in their last game. Jared Walsh had a pair of home runs with three RBIs total, while Shohei Ohtani belted a solo home run of his own and Phil Gosselin chipped in an RBI as well to finish off the scoring for the Angels in the win. David Fletcher went 2 for 4 while Jose Iglesias, Kurt Suzuki, Taylor Ward and Luis Rengifo each had a base hit as well to cap off the offense for the Angels in the win. Andrew Heaney got the win to improve to 5-6 on the year after allowing three runs on six hits while striking out five over 5.1 innings of work. Alex Cobb will start here and is 6-3 with a 4.60 ERA and 69 strikeouts this season. In his career, Cobb is 4-4 with a 6.41 ERA and 42 strikeouts against Seattle.

The Seattle Mariners will attempt to build on their 4-0 win over the Yankees last time out. All of the Mariners’ scoring came via the long ball, as Dylan Moore had a two-run home run while Kyle Seager and Mitch Haniger each had solo blasts to make up the rest of the scoring for the M’s in the win. Luis Torrens had a base hit as well as the Mariners had just five hits as a team in the victory. Logan Gilbert got the win to improve to 3-2 on the year after tossing seven shutout innings, giving up just one hit while striking out eight. Marco Gonzales will start here and is 1-5 with a 5.82 ERA and 46 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gonzales is 8-1 with a 3.55 ERA and 78 strikeouts against the Angels.

Los Angeles is 16-5 in their last 21 games as a favorite and 0-4 in their last 4 division games while the over is 20-8-1 in their last 29 games overall. Seattle is 7-3 in their last 10 Friday games and 9-4 in their last 13 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 series-opening games.

I get the case that could be made either way here, but realistically, I’m not trusting either starter here. Marco Gonzales hasn’t been all that great and I’ve watched Alex Cobb get torched more often than not over the course of his career. I think we see a fairly entertaining matchup between these two teams and as such, I’ll side with the over in this spot.
