The Oakland Athletics and the Detroit Tigers meet Tuesday in MLB action from Comerica Park. The A’s are coming off a weekend series versus the Yankees. Oakland managed a tie in that four-game set. As for the Tigers, they played a one-off game versus the Twins on Monday. In that one, Detroit took a tough defeat. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

The A’s fell to the Yankees 7-6 Thursday and 8-2 Friday, but bounced back with victories 3-2 Saturday and 3-1 Sunday to even the series. In the Sunday victory, Oakland’s Paul Blackburn posted 5.0 innings with no earned on five hits and a walk.

For the starter job in the Tuesday matchup, the A’s will send out Cole Irvin. In his 144.1 innings this year Irvin has 149 hits with 66 runs (59 earned), 12 homers allowed, 31 walks, 97 Ks and a 3.68 ERA.

Over on the Tigers’ side, they played the Blue Jays over the weekend, winning Friday before losing the last two games. On Monday versus the Twins, Detroit had an early lead but ultimately fell 3-2. Starter Casey Mize put up three earned on one walk and five hits.

Starting pitcher for Detroit on Tuesday will be Tarik Skubal. Over 25 games (23 starts) this year, Skubal has an 8-11 record, a 4.01 ERA and 144 Ks in 128.0 innings.

The A’s are 73-24 in their last 97 versus the AL Central and 13-5 in their last 18 after an off day. Oakland is 77-35 in their last 112 versus a lefty starter and 2-6 in their last eight overall.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are 19-7 in their last 26 Tuesday games and 7-3 in their last 10 versus a lefty starter. Detroit is 26-58 in their last 54 versus the AL West and 64-147 in their last 211 versus a team with a winning record.

PICK: I’m going to try the Tigers here. Skubal has been pretty good over his last three starts, posting a total of 17.2 innings with 14 hits, two walks and four earned runs. As for Irvin, he’s given up three earned in each of his last three, a total of nine earned on 22 hits in 14.0 innings. I think Irvin will finish around a quality start in this one, prior to Detroit eking out a victory late. Should be a fun matchup.
