The Colorado Rockies and the Philadelphia Phillies meet Friday in MLB action from Citizens Bank Park. This will be the second installment in a four-game series over the weekend. In the Thursday opener, the Rockies eked out a one-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Colorado didn’t have any luck versus the Giants this week, falling in three straight games. In the Thursday opener versus the Phillies, the Rockies posted a 4-3 win thanks to three ninth-inning runs. Antonio Senzatela put up 6.0 innings with two earned on four hits and two walks.
For the starter job in the Friday game two, the Rockies will send out German Marquez. Over his 161.0 innings this year Marquez has 139 hits, 77 runs (73 earned), 19 homers allowed, 55 walks, 161 Ks and a 4.08 ERA.
Over on the Phillies’ side, they managed a Monday win over the Brewers 12-0 but then fell 10-0 and 4-3 in the next two games. On Friday, Philly had six team hits in the defeat. Ranger Suarez went 6.0 innings with one earned on five hits and one walk.
For the starting pitcher role on Friday, the Phillies didn’t immediately announce a name.
The Rockies are 6-1 in their last seven Friday games and 18-51 in their last 69 road games. Colorado is 1-4 in their last five in game two of a series and the under is 5-1-1 in their last seven in game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Phillies are 2-5 in their last seven in game two of a series and 7-2 in their last nine versus a team with a losing record. The over is 4-1 in Philly’s last five in game two of a series and the under is 5-2 in the last seven Friday games.
PICK: I’m going to try the Rockies here. Marquez needs to have a good starting outing, though. Over his last three games, Marquez has put up 11 earned runs on 19 hits and four homers in 14.0 innings. He’s coming off four runs (two earned) on five hits and a homer in 5.0 innings versus Atlanta his last time up. If Marquez can at least flirt with a quality start in this one I think Colorado has a good shot at a W.
