The Boston Red Sox and the Washington Nationals meet in MLB action from Nationals Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Boston Red Sox will look to build on their 5-3 win over the Nationals from Saturday. Xander Bogaerts leads Boston with a .296 batting average and a .371 OBP while Rafael Devers leads the Red Sox with 36 home runs and 109 RBIs, boasting 161 hits, only two hits behind J.D. Martinez who has 163 hits and a team-high 42 doubles and 3 triples this season. Chris Sale will start here and is 5-1 with a 2.90 ERA and 45 strikeouts this season.

The Washington Nationals will be out to bounce back after blowing up in Saturday’s loss. Juan Soto leads the Nationals across the board with 157 hits, 29 home runs, 95 RBIs, a .315 batting average and a .467 OBP this season while Josh Bell has 23 doubles this year along with 27 home runs and 88 RBIs. Joan Adon is expected to make his major league debut in the regular season finale.

Boston is 11-2 in their last 13 interleague games and 10-5 in their last 15 games overall while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 games overall. Washington is 1-7 in their last 8 games overall and 1-5 in their last 6 home games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 interleague games.

I said last week that I was done with the Boston Red Sox when they couldn’t beat the Baltimore Orioles with Chris Sale on the mound, and my stance hasn’t changed. Should the Red Sox win? Yes. It’s a logical spot and it’s a spot that pitchers like Sale live for, a chance to put his team in the playoffs on the last day of the season. However, I’m not laying in bed with a Nationals team that choked it up on Saturday and is sending Adon to the mound for his major league debut on Sunday. I’m going to lean towards the over as I see the two sides trading runs back and forth and could see this one finishing well into double digits once we get to the bullpens.
