The Colorado Rockies and the Washington Nationals meet Saturday in MLB doubleheader action from Nationals Park. This was originally scheduled to be the third installment in a four-game weekend series, but Friday’s game two was pushed back due to weather. The Nationals pulled off a four-run win in the Thursday opener. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Colorado gave up four runs in the first inning during Thursday’s game and couldn’t come back in an eventual 7-3 loss. Starter German Marquez finished with 6.0 innings, five earned, six hits and three walks.

For the starter gig in the Saturday game one, Colorado is going with Austin Gomber. This year Gomber is 2-4 with a 4.11 ERA. For game two it’ll be Chad Kuhl. In his eight starts this year Kuhl is 3-2 with a 3.67 ERA. Over 41.2 innings of work he’s got 36 hits, 17 earned runs, 17 walks and 31 Ks.

Over on the Nationals’ side, they managed nine hits (and two errors) in the Thursday victory. Patrick Corbin was solid overall on 6.1 innings, three earned, seven hits and two walks.

Aaron Sanchez will be the game one starter for the Nationals. He’s 3-3 with a 7.16 ERA this year. Joan Adon will make the start for the Nationals in game two. Across his nine starts so far Adon is 1-8 with a 6.97 ERA. In 41.1 innings he’s given up 32 earned on 44 hits and 27 walks with 35 strikeouts.

The Rockies are 35-75 in their last 110 road games and 3-9 in their last 12 versus the NL East. Colorado is 1-5 in their last six in game three of a series.

Meanwhile, the Nats are 5-21 in their last 26 Saturday games and 14-38 in their last 52 at home. Washington is 9-22 in their last 31 in game three of a series.

GAME 1 PICK: Probably Washington; this one’s a coin flip, though. Gomber is 0-2 over his last three starts with 10 earned in 18.1 innings of work. As for Sanchez, he’s given up nine earned in his last three starts over 14.0 frames. Either guy could prevail in the starter battle.

GAME 2 PICK: I’m leaning Rockies here but probably staying away. Neither starter has been great lately. Kuhl has 11 earned in his last 12.0 innings over three starts, and Adon has given up 10 earned over his last three starts in 13.0 innings. Needless to say this one could turn into a high-scoring shootout early if both starters go south.
