Colombia and Great Britain face off on Monday in the World Baseball Classic at Chase Field in Phoenix.

It took extra innings, but Colombia was able to open up their WBC run with a victory over Mexico. Colombia fell behind in the 4th inning, but they fought back, including three runs in the 5th inning. Gustavo Campero put the ball in play in the 10th inning, and it was an error by Mexico that allowed them to take the lead. Reynaldo Rodriguez had a strong game finishing with three hits, one run, and three RBIs. Designated hitter Jorge Alfaro also had a strong game finishing with two hits and three runs. This is a mostly youthful roster, that doesn’t have the most experience, but it’s clear they are going to fight, and now they have put themselves in a good position after the opening win against Mexico.

On Saturday against the United States, Great Britain jumped out to a lead, but they couldn’t hold on as they were defeated 6-2. On Sunday Great Britain faced off against Canada and the offense managed eight runs, but the pitching was awful giving up 18 runs. Great Britain was led by Harry Ford who finished with one hit and three RBIs. Chavez Young also had a strong game finishing with three runs. The pitching has been pretty well used two games in a row, but in this game, if they want any chance the pitching is going to need to be a lot better.
