The Arizona Diamondbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals meet Monday in MLB action from Busch Stadium. The Diamondbacks are coming off a series versus the Brewers. Arizona split the first pair in that set, then on Sunday the Diamondbacks lost by one run. As for the Cards, they played the Pirates this past weekend. St. Louis lost two of the first three games in that series, then on Sunday the Cardinals lost again by five runs. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Arizona lost 11-5 in the Friday game versus the Padres, but scored a 10-1 win in the Saturday matchup. On Sunday, the Diamondbacks fell 5-4 in a tough one. Zac Gallen put up 4.2 innings with six hits and two earned in the defeat.
For the Monday starting pitcher role, the Diamondbacks are sending out Jake Faria. This season Faria has just 4.0 innings under his belt, with three hits, three runs (two earned), one homer allowed, one walk, five Ks and a 4.50 ERA.
Over on the St. Louis side, they dropped games to the Pirates 8-2 and 5-4 before getting a 3-1 win on Saturday. In the Sunday game, the Cardinals had just three hits in a 7-2 loss. Johan Oviedo went 4.0 innings with five earned on six hits and four walks.
For the Monday starting pitcher job, the Cardinals are sending out Wade LeBlanc. This season so far LeBlanc is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA and 10 strikeouts.
The Diamondbacks are 2-6 in their last eight Monday games and 14-46 in their last 60 raid games. Arizona is 2-14 in the last 16 in game one of a series and the under is 4-1 in their last five Monday games.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 21-10 in their last 31 Monday games and 1-7 in their last eight in game one of a series. The over is 5-1 in St. Louis’ last six versus the NL West and the under is 9-3 in their last 12 Monday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with the Cardinals, but probably staying away. Neither one of these teams elicits much excitement these days. In any case, This will be a decent opportunity to see Faria and LeBlanc go up against each other. LeBlanc carries a 4.58 career ERA with a 46-48 record, so he’s been underperforming lately. If he can get four or five good innings I think St. Louis has a good shot at a win.
