Los Angeles Angels 

The Angels bagged 10 hits and three homers in the opener of this series, powering out a 4-1 win. Luis Rengifo, Randal Grichuk and Chad Wallach each had home runs. On Tuesday Los Angeles gave up three runs in the seventh inning during a 5-1 loss. Zach Neto had the team’s lone RBI, while both Mickey Moniak (run) and Randal Grichuk had two hits apiece. 

In the starter role Wednesday it’ll be Lucas Giolito. Over his 22 starts this year Giolito is 6-7 with a 3.85 ERA and 136 Ks in 126.1 innings. Giolito is 1-2 with a 4.41 ERA in his last six starts, giving up 17 earned in 34.2 innings.

Yonny Chirinos will take the mound for the Braves on Wednesday. Across his 16 games (five starts) so far Chirinos is 4-4 with a 4.34 ERA and 34 Ks in 66.1 innings. Chirinos is coming off four earned in 3.2 innings versus Milwaukee.

I’ll probably stick with the Angels in this one. It’ll be an interesting pitching matchup regardless, though. Giolito is coming off a loss against Toronto, giving up three earned on six hits and a walk in 5.1 innings. This will be Giolito’s second appearance for the Angels, and I think he’ll have better luck in this one. As for Chirinos, he’s given up seven earned over his last 8.1 innings total. On Tuesday Los Angeles was playing from behind for pretty much the whole game, and the offense couldn’t do anything on six team hits. The Angels are going to need a turnaround on both offense and defense in order to take this game/series, and it starts with Giolito. Should be a fun one to watch.
