The San Diego Padres and the Atlanta Braves meet Sunday in MLB action from Truist Park. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s an Atlanta Braves vs San Diego Padres Prediction.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The San Diego Padres will send Yu Darvish to the mound here and Darvish is 3-1 with a 2.43 ERA and 37 strikeouts this season. Atlanta will start Bryce Elder in this one and is 1-1 with a 4.79 ERA and 16 strikeouts this season.

San Diego Padres Recap

The San Diego Padres will look to build on their win in Friday’s opener by a final score of 3-1 before being rained out on Saturday. A series win would be just what the doctor ordered for San Diego after being swept at home by Colorado to start the week.

Padres Have Consistency Issues Offensively

Jurickson Profar leads the Padres with 51 hits along with a .325 batting average and 8 doubles with 7 homers and 30 RBIs. Jake Cronenworth has 28 RBIs while Fernando Tatis Jr. has belted a team-high 8 home runs this season. Manny Machado has 5 home runs and 23 RBIs but also has 42 strikeouts while Ha-Seong Kim has 33 hits with 2 triples, 4 doubles, 5 home runs, 21 RBIs and a team-high 8 stolen bases. Tatis Jr. also has a team-high 44 strikeouts and 6 stolen bases as well this season.

Why the San Diego Padres will win

  • The Padres have won each of their last four games as road underdogs against the Braves.
  • The Braves have lost four of their last five games as favorites against the Padres following a home loss.
  • The underdogs have covered the run line in each of the Padres’ last 11 games at Truist Park.
  • The Braves have failed to cover the run line in each of their last eight night games against NL West opponents following a home loss.
  • The Braves have trailed after 5 innings in each of their last five night games against NL West opponents.

Atlanta Braves Recap

The Atlanta Braves come into this game looking to shake off their series opening loss to the Padres, putting themselves at risk of losing a series for the first time in a while after series wins over the Cubs, Mets and Red Sox in the last week and a half.

Braves Still Racking Up Wins Despite Inconsistent Bats

Marcell Ozuna leads the Braves with 49 hits including 12 home runs and 41 RBIs while Orlando Arcia has a team-high 12 doubles while Ozzie Albies has 10 doubles, logging 38 hits as well this season. Ronald Acuna Jr. has a team-high 46 strikeouts but also leads the Braves with 14 stolen bases as well this season. Matt Olson has 9 doubles and Austin Riley has 8 doubles with a pair of triples.

Why the Atlanta Braves will win

  • The Braves have won eight of their last nine games against NL West opponents that held a losing record.
  • The Padres have lost each of their last five road games against NL East opponents following a road win.
  • The Braves have covered the run line in eight of their last nine games against NL West opponents that held a losing record.
  • The Padres have failed to cover the run line in each of their last five road games against NL East opponents following a road win.
  • The Padres have lost the first inning in each of their last three night games against NL East opponents.
  • The Padres have trailed after 5 innings in each of their last five Saturday games against opponents that held a winning record.
  • The Padres have trailed after 3 innings in each of their last three night games against NL East opponents.

Atlanta Braves vs San Diego Padres Prediction

I’m on the Padres here. I just think San Diego has a clear edge on the mound with Darvish going and while the Braves have the more trustworthy lineup on paper, the bats haven’t always delivered, and Elder is due to get rocked again in my opinion, leaving the door open for plenty of runs in this game. I think San Diego gets another win here so I’ll side with the Padres in this one.
