Mike Trout will hope for a healthy year for once, playing in just 82 games last season while posting a .263 batting average and 18 homers with 44 RBIs. Brandon Drury had 26 homers and 83 RBIs with 30 doubles and 127 hits as well last season. Patrick Sandoval will start for the Angels and was 7-13 with a 4.11 ERA and 128 strikeouts last season. The Baltimore Orioles will look to build on one of their most successful seasons in recent memory, finishing the year 101-61, earning their division title since 1997 and first 100-win season since 1980. The bulk of the young core for the Orioles remains intact, led by Gunnar Henderson, who hit .255 with 28 homers and 82 RBIs while Adley Rutschman added 20 homers and 80 RBIs as well. Newly acquired Corbin Burnes will get the start for the Orioles here and was 10-8 with a 3.39 ERA and 200 strikeouts as a member of the Brewers last season. Angels vs. Orioles Prediction
I’m on the Orioles here. I think there’s something to be said for a young team rolling the momentum forward and the Orioles were rock solid for much of 2023. The Angels may have been banged up, but this team’s been struggling for a while now, they lost one star in Ohtani and could lose another in Trout if the winning doesn’t become more frequent but I’m not sure it will here. Sandoval struggled in spring training, and I just think the Orioles get to him early and often here. I’ll back Baltimore at home in this one.
