The Baltimore Orioles and the Los Angeles Angels meet in MLB action from Angel Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Baltimore Orioles will attempt to bounce back from a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Angels on Saturday. Pat Valaika had the lone RBI for the Orioles and Ramon Urias had a pair of hits while Trey Mancini and Ryan Mountcastle each had base hit as the Orioles cranked out just five hits as a team in the losing effort. Jorge Lopez took the loss on the hill for Baltimore after allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out four over 4.2 innings of work. Thomas Eshelman will start here and is 0-1 with a 6.57 ERA and 4 strikeouts this season. This will be Eshelman’s first career start against the Angels.
The Los Angeles Angels will try to build on Saturday’s win over the Angels to keep their winning ways going. Phil Gosselin had two RBIs while Juan Lagares and Jared Walsh each had a double and an RBI with Walsh going 2 for 4 at the dish to make up the scoring for the Halos in the winning effort. Jose Iglesias, Luis Rengifo, Max Stassi and Favid Fletcher each had hits as well to finish off Los Angeles’ offense as a team in the win. Alex Cobb got the win to improve to 6-3 on the year after allowing one run on four hits while striking out six over 7.2 innings of work. Raisel Iglesias closed the 9th for his 16th save of the season. Patrick Sandoval will start here and is 2-2 with a 3.89 ERA and 46 strikeouts this season. This will be Sandoval’s first career start against Baltimore.
Baltimore is 29-61 in their last 90 games against the AL West and 1-5 in their last 6 Sunday games while the over is 10-3 in their last 13 games against a left-handed starter. Los Angeles is 8-1 in their last 9 game three matchups and 10-2 in their last 12 games as a favorite while the over is 20-7 in their last 27 games overall. The over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams in Los Angeles.
I get the case that could be made for either side here, as I’m not trying to pay this price with Patrick Sandoval but the Angels are the better team and Thomas Eshelman is far from a reliable arm in this paltry Orioles rotation. Instead, I’m going to go back to the well with the over. Both teams can put runs on the board despite a slow night on Saturday and I think the runs come pouring back in on Sunday. Give me the over.
