The Chicago White Sox and the Boston Red Sox meet Friday in MLB action from Fenway Park. Chicago is coming off a series versus the Nationals, losing two of three games. The White Sox managed a nice 6-1 win over the Nationals on Monday but the rest of the series didn’t go very well. Chicago lost 4-3 in the Tuesday game two, then took a blowout loss 13-3 in the finale. Gavin Sheets managed two RBI in the loss, while Andrew Vaughn posted two hits with an RBI. 

In the starter role for the Friday finale the White Sox will go with Touch Toussaint. This year so far Toussaint is 4-7 with a 5.40 ERA and 79 strikeouts. Over his last seven starts Toussaint is 3-2 with a 7.12 ERA.

Chris Sale will take the mound for the Red Sox in the Friday matchup. This year Sale is 6-4 with a 4.66 ERA in 18 starts. Sale is 1-2 with a 4.81 ERA over his last seven starts total, with 33.2 innings and 45 Ks.

I’ll lean toward the Red Sox here, but we should have a pretty good weekend matchup on our hands regardless. (The line’s too thick to mess with anyway, so a White Sox pick makes complete sense as well.) Sale had a rough outing versus Baltimore back on September 9 with 4.0 innings and six earned in a loss. In the other pair of his last three starts however, Sale is 1-0 with 11.0 innings and just one earned. As for Toussaint, he had a similarly rough game versus KC on September 12 with eight earned in one inning, but in his remaining pair he has three earned in 11.0 frames. I like both starters to at least flirt with quality outings here as the Red Sox strike first in the weekend Laundry Series. Should be a fun one to watch.
