The Miami Marlins and the Boston Red Sox meet Tuesday in MLB action from Fenway Park. The Marlins are fresh off a series versus the Pirates. Miami managed three wins in four games there. Miami Marlins 

The Marlins lost 3-1 to the Pirates in their Friday game, but otherwise got wins 6-4, 4-3 and 2-0 in that four-game series over the weekend. Finale starter Eury Perez managed 6.0 clean frames with four hits and a walk alongside nine Ks. 

For the starter job on Tuesday it’ll be Sandy Alcantara. Over his 15 starts this year Alcantara is 2-6 with a 5.08 ERA and 78 Ks in 95.2 innings. Alcantara is 36-49 with a 3.34 ERA in 133 games (125 starts) over his career. 

Boston Red Sox 

Over on the Boston side, they beat the White Sox 3-1 in their Friday opener. The next two games were losses 5-4 and 4-1, however. Boston’s Kutter Crawford gave up four earned on five hits and a walk in 6.0 innings on Sunday during the start. 

Garrett Whitlock will make the start for the Sox on Tuesday. In his eight starts this year Whitlock is 4-2 with a 4.50 ERA and 39 strikeouts over 46.0 innings. Whitlock has a career record of 16-8 with a 3.14 ERA in 85 games (17 starts). 

The Marlins are 4-0 in their last four road games and 17-6 in the last 23 interleague games. Miami is 11-4 in their last 15 after a win. 

Meanwhile, the Red Sox are 4-0 in the last four at home and 5-1 in their last six in game one of a series. Boston is 80-37 in their last 117 versus the NL East. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’ll stick with Boston in this one. Whitlock has gone at least 6.1 innings in each of his last three games so he should be able to post a lengthy start in this one. Over that trio, Whitlock is 2-0 with seven earned in 20.1 total innings on 21 hits and two walks. As for Alcantara, he’s been a bit sketchy in his last pair with 12.1 combined innings, 10 earned runs, 20 hits and two walks total. Boston should have some offensive opportunities early in this opener.
