The Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs meet Wednesday in MLB action from Wrigley Field. This will be the second installment in a three-game series. In the Tuesday opener, the Cubs put up a one-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Philadelphia played the Braves over the weekend, winning two of four games for a split. On Tuesday versus the Cubs, Philly overcame an early deficit to post a 2-1 win. Starter Zach Wheeler went 6.0 innings with one earned run on five hits and a walk.

Starter for the Wednesday game will be Philly’s Aaron Nola. In his 30 starts so far Nola is 10-12 with a 3.28 ERA. In 192.1 innings total he has 70 earned on 161 hits and 29 walks with 218 Ks.

Over on the Cubs’ side, they took on the Pirates over the weekend and won three of four games. On Tuesday Chicago out-hit Philly 7-5 in the victory. Marcus Stroman put up 7.0 innings with one earned, four hits and a walk in the starting role.

Hayden Wesneski will take the mound for the Cubs on Wednesday. In four games (two starts) Wesneski is 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA. In 22.0 innings total he has six earned on 14 hits and four walks with 24 Ks.

The Phillies are 5-0 in their last five Wednesday games and 5-1 in their last six in game two of a series. Philly is 36-17 in their last 53 versus a team with a losing record.

Meanwhile, the Cubs are 6-1 in the last seven Wednesday games and the under is 5-1 in their last six in game two of a series. The under is 22-8-3 in Chicago’s last 33 at home

PICK: I’m going to try the Cubs. Should be a pretty fun matchup regardless. Wesneski has given up three earned over 13.1 innings in his last two starts on eight hits and two walks. He’s 1-0 in that pair. As for Nola, he gave up four in 7.0 innings back on September 17 but bounced back in his last start with 6.0 clean frames. I like both guys to do well here in a relatively lower-scoring game.
