The Detroit Tigers and the Chicago White Sox meet Friday in MLB action from Guaranteed Rate Field. Here’s a Chicago White Sox vs Detroit Tigers prediction. This will be the first installment in a four-game series. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best White Sox vs Tigers pick.

Detroit Tigers Betting Preview

This week the Tigers played the Chicago Cubs. Detroit lost 3-1 in the opener of that series, then in game two the Tigers powered out an 8-2 win. In the finale Detroit was out-hit 13-5 in a 10-2 loss. Kenta Maeda gave up most of the damage with 5.0 innings and six earned runs.

As starter for the Friday matchup the Tigers will go with Keider Montero. In his rookie season Montero is 4-5 with a 5.28 ERA in 11 games (10 starts).

Chicago White Sox Betting Preview

Over on the White Sox’ side, they’re coming off a series versus the San Francisco Giants. Chicago lost the first two installments of that set 5-3 and 4-1. In the Wednesday finale the White Sox managed to stave off the sweep with a 6-2 victory. Starter Garrett Crochet posted 4.0 innings with two earned in the win.

In the starting pitcher slot for Friday the White Sox are sending out Chris Flexen. This year Flexen is 2-12 with a 5.46 ERA in 26 games (24 starts). Flexen is 29-46 with a 5.05 ERA in 146 career games (104 starts).

Chicago White Sox vs Detroit Tigers Prediction

I might take a stab on the White Sox as a value play. Probably not touching it, though. The line’s not very enticing. Flexen has gone 0-2 over his last three outings. In the two losses he’s got a combined 10 earned runs in 5.2 innings. In the no-decision Flexen posted 4.0 clean frames with four walks and three hits. He’ll need a good start here if the White Sox will stand any chance at winning the opener.

The victories have been few and far between for the White Sox. They’re 2-4 in their last six games, and 2-1 in the three games that they’ve plated at least three runs. Getting off to a good start on the scoreboard will be important for Chicago here as well. I’m most likely staying away.
