The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox meet Tuesday in MLB action from Guaranteed Rate Field. This will be the second installment in a three-game series. New York Yankees 

The Yankees did okay in spots versus the Astros over the weekend, winning two of four games for a series tie. In Sunday’s 9-7 loss Harrison Bader led the way on three hits, a run and two RBI. On Monday versus the White Sox, New York gave up three runs in the eighth inning on the way to a 5-1 loss. Billy McKinney had two hits and the lone RBI, and Aaron Judge managed two hits with a run.

Clarke Schmidt will take the starting role for the Yankees on Tuesday. Across his 23 games (22 starts) Schmidt is 7-6 with a 4.35 ERA and 103 Ks in 109.2 innings. Schmidt has gone 5-0 in his last seven games (six starts) with a 4.41 ERA and 16 earned in 32.2 innings total.

Over on the White Sox’ side, they were able to take two of three from the Guardians over the weekend. Chicago win 5-3 on Sunday thanks in part to Elvis Andrus’ three hits, two RBI and one run. Matched up against the Yankees on Monday, Chicago had six hits (and gave up six) in the win. Luis Robert and Andrew Vaughn each had two RBI. 

Touch Toussaint will take the start for the Sox on Tuesday. In his 10 games (six starts) so far Toussaint is 1-4 with a 3.92 ERA and 38 strikeouts over 41.1 innings. Toussaint is 1-3 in his last seven games (five starts), sporting a 4.02 ERA from 14 earned in 31.1 innings.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’ll stick with the Yankees in this one. Probably not touching it, though. Schmidt has been decent lately, with a total of eight earned over 15.2 innings in his last three starts. Schmdt is 2-0 in that time, and if he keeps it up here he’ll put New York in a good spot. As for Toussaint, he was shaky versus Texas in his last outing (5.1 innings; four earned) but had 6.0 clean innings combined in two appearances before that. On Monday New York had a pretty muted offensive night despite working eight walks (seven in the first 5.1 frames). The Yankees have scored three or more runs in five of their last six games though, so I think they’ll get back to business in game two. That said, I’m not going near it.
