The New York Mets and the Cincinnati Reds meet Saturday in MLB action from Great American Ballpark. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a New York Mets vs. Cincinnati Reds prediction.

New York Mets Team Preview

The New York Mets come into this one looking to build on their series-opening 3-2 win over the Reds last time out. Francisco Alvarez leads the Mets with 8 hits including a .333 batting average, a home run, 3 doubles and a team-high 4 RBIs. Brett Baty also has 4 RBIs of his own while Pete Alonso has a team-high 2 home runs this season. Alvarez, Alonso and Harrison Bader all share the dubious distinction of leading the Mets with 7 strikeouts apiece this season. Luis Severino will get the start for the Mets here and is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA and 6 strikeouts this season. The Mets will meet the Braves after this series.

New York Mets Team Facts

  • The Mets have lost each of their last eight day games against National League opponents following a road win.
  • The underdogs have covered the run line in each of the Mets’ last nine games.
  • The ‘Inning 1 OVER 0.5 runs’ market has hit in each of the Mets’ last five games at Great American Ball Park.
  • The Mets have trailed after 3 innings in each of their last three games against National League opponents.
  • The Mets have led after 7 innings in three of their last four games as underdogs against NL Central opponents.

Cincinnati Reds Team Preview

The Cincinnati Reds come into this game looking to bounce back from their series-opening loss to the Mets on Friday. Spencer Steer leads the Reds with 11 hits with a .423 batting average, 2 home runs and 9 RBIs as well as a total of 5 XBH while Nick Martini also has 2 home runs and 9 RBIs as well this season. Will Benson also has a team-high 4 doubles while Elly De La Cruz has 4 XBH with 3 doubles and a triple. Nick Martinez will get the start for the Reds here and is 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA and 3 strikeouts this season. The Reds will face the Brewers following this series.

Cincinnati Reds Team Facts

  • The underdogs have won four of the last five games between the Mets and Reds.
  • The Reds have failed to cover the run line in seven of their last eight games as favorites against NL East opponents.
  • The ‘Inning 1 UNDER 0.5 runs’ market has hit in each of the Reds’ last six day games at Great American Ball Park.
  • The Reds have trailed after 7 innings in four of their last six games as favorites against National League opponents.
  • The Reds have won the first inning in each of their last four games against the Mets at Great American Ball Park.

Mets vs. Reds Prediction

I’m on the Mets again here. The Reds have the younger lineup, but realistically, both lineups have pop in their bats and the Mets are a better team than the win-loss record they’ve put out so far this season. I just don’t trust Nick Martinez as a starter at the best of times, and think that the Reds’ rotation might be in some hot water if they have to turn to him long term going forward. I think the Mets continue their climb out from their cold start with another win in this one.
