In this article we will formulate a Cleveland Guardians vs NY Mets prediction for this MLB game on Wednesday, May 22nd at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. Let’s take a look at the prediction for game three in the series.

Mets Continue to Spiral

The New York Mets are 21-27 this year, and they have lost seven of their last nine games. New York has dropped the first two games in this series and they have allowed 10 runs so far through two games. Prior to this series, the Mets lost two out of three against Miami, lost three out of four against Philadelphia, and lost two out of three against Atlanta. New York has lost 12 of their last 17 games and they are fourth in the NL East behind the Phillies, Braves, and Nationals.

The New York pitching staff has a 4.03 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, and a .229 opponent batting average. The Mets offense has scored 206 runs with a .237 batting average and a .308 on base percentage. Pete Alonso is batting .235 with 10 home runs and 23 RBI’s for the Mets this season. New York is 16th in team ERA this season, and they have allowed at least four runs in 10 of their last 13 games.

Cleveland Going for Six Straight

The Cleveland Guardians are 32-17 this season, and they have won five games in a row. Cleveland has won the first two games in this series by scores of 3-1 and 7-6. Prior to this series, the Guardians swept the Twins, won two out of three against the Rangers, and lost three out of four against the White Sox. Cleveland has won eight of their last nine games, and they are currently leading the AL Central by 1.5 games over the Royals.

The Cleveland pitching staff has a 3.29 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP, and a .229 opponent batting average. The Guardians’ offense has scored 238 runs with a .236 batting average and a .310 on base percentage. Jose Ramirez is batting .258 with 12 home runs and 44 RBI’s for the Guardians this season. Cleveland is fifth in team ERA this year and they have allowed three runs or fewer in six of their last ten games.

Starting Pitchers

The projected starting pitcher for New York is Jose Quintana, who is 1-4 with a 5.21 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP over 46.2 innings pitched this year. Quintana has allowed at least four earned runs in three of his last five starts, and he has allowed 14 earned runs and 20 hits over his last three outings. The projected starting pitcher for Cleveland is Triston McKenzie, who is 2-3 with a 3.23 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP over 47.1 innings pitched this season. McKenzie has allowed one earned run in each of his last three starts, and he has allowed two earned runs or fewer in five straight outings.

Why the Cleveland Guardians will win

The home team has won each of the last eight games between the Mets and Guardians.
The Mets have lost 14 of their last 15 road games against American League opponents.
The Guardians have covered the run line in each of their last nine day games following a win.
The Mets have failed to cover the run line in 10 of their last 11 day games against AL Central opponents.
The Guardians have led after 3 innings in each of their last four games.
The Guardians have led after 5 innings in each of their last seven games against National League opponents that held a losing record.

Total Runs Facts

Seven of the Mets’ last eight road games after playing the previous day have gone OVER the total runs line.
Seven of the Guardians’ last eight games as favorites have gone UNDER the total runs line.

Cleveland Guardians vs NY Mets Prediction

Cleveland comes into this matchup looking for the series sweep, and they have been great at home this season, going 17-6. New York is 11-13 on the road, and they are starting Jose Quintana, who cannot be trusted right now. The Mets pitching staff has not been very good recently, and I don’t think Quintana will change that here. Cleveland is going with Triston McKenzie, who has had five excellent starts in a row. Cleveland has been the more consistent hitting team, and they have the better starting pitcher on the mound, so my Cleveland Guardians vs NY Mets prediction is for the Guardians to win.
