The Cleveland Indians and the St. Louis Cardinals meet Tuesday in MLB action from Busch Stadium. Cleveland is coming off a series versus the Orioles this past weekend. The Indians managed a win Saturday but lost the other two games. As for the Cardinals, they played the Reds in their last set. St. Louis lost all four of those games for a sweep. Cleveland posted a big 10-4 win over the Orioles on Saturday but otherwise lost 3-1 Friday and 18-5 in a Sunday blowout. In that finale, Indians starter Cal Quantrill put up just 1.1 innings with five earned on five hits with one strikeout.

For the starter job in the Tuesday game, the Indians will send out Shane Bieber. Over his 79.0 innings this year, Bieber has 65 hits, 29 runs (27 earned), nine homers allowed, 29 walks, 117 strikeouts and a 3.08 ERA.

Over on the Cardinals’ side, they had no luck whatsoever versus the Reds this weekend, falling 4-2 Thursday, 6-4 Friday, 5-2 Saturday and 8-7 Sunday. In the Sunday loss, St. Louis starter John Gant lasted 4.0 innings with seven earned on seven hits and three walks.

For the starter job on Tuesday, the Cardinals will send out Carlos Martinez. Over his 54.0 innings this year, Martinez has 47 hits, 36 runs (35 earned), three homers allowed, 20 walks, 31 Ks and a 5.83 ERA.

The Indians are 7-1 in their last eight after a loss and 4-1 in their last five interleague games. Cleveland is 35-16 in their last 51 Tuesday games and 4-10 in their last 14 after an off day.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games and 4-1 in the last five after an off day. St. Louis is 2-5 in their last seven interleague games and 2-5 in their last seven versus the AL Central.

PICK: I’m going to take the Indians. Martinez is coming off an ugly outing June 2 versus the Dodgers, lasting just 0.2 innings with 10 earned on six hits. As for Bieber, he’s posted seven-inning outings in his last two starts and looks to have the rough patch in May behind him. I like Martinez to pitch better in a solid starter battle, with Cleveland ultimately winning the game.
