The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Colorado Rockies meet Friday in MLB action from Coors Field. Here’s a Colorado Rockies vs Pittsburgh Pirates prediction. This will be the first installment in a three-game series. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for the game.

Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Preview

The Pirates played the St. Louis Cardinals in their last series. Pittsburgh split the first two games of that set 2-1 (win) and 4-2 (loss). In the Thursday finale the Pirates took a 3-4 loss to drop the series. Mitch Keller gave up all four earned in 6.0 innings on eight hits and zero walks. Oneil Cruz came away with a pair of RBI at the plate.

For the starter gig on Friday the Pirates didn’t immediately announce a name.

Colorado Rockies Betting Preview

Over on the Rockies’ side, they took on the Minnesota Twins this week. Colorado also split their first pair 5-0 (loss) and 5-4 (win). In the Wednesday game the Rockies were blown out 17-9 to drop the series. Rockies starter Austin Gomber coughed up eight earned runs on 11 hits and a walk in 3.0 innings during the defeat.

On starter duties for Friday’s opener the Rockies will send out Ryan Feltner. This year so far Feltner is 1-5 with a 5.74 ERA in 13 starts. He’s got 59 Ks in 69.0 innings. Feltner is 7-19 with a 5.96 ERA in 45 career games (44 starts).

Colorado Rockies vs Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction

I’ll probably take a stab on the Rockies here. Feltner had a bad run going early this month, posting 13 earned runs on 18 hits and two walks over 8.2 innings in back-to-back starts. In his last outing however, Feltner managed 5.1 clean frames with two hits and a walk for a no-decision.

As for the Pirates, on Thursday they could only score in one inning and bagged seven team hits along the way. The good news is that the bullpen did well; the bad news is that the offense stalled and Keller had a couple of spotty innings. I like Pittsburgh to come back strong on Friday but Colorado should have a good shot at a home win as well.
