The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Chicago Cubs meet Saturday in MLB action from Wrigley Field. This will be the second installment in a three-game weekend series. Here’s a Cubs vs Diamondbacks Prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Cubs vs Diamondbacks pick.
Arizona Diamondbacks Betting Preview
Arizona has seen the Cubs once this year already in the first series of the season. The Diamondbacks split that one with wins in two games. Arizona got wins in two of three matchups versus the New York Yankees in the next series. The Diamondbacks lost two of three versus the Washington Nationals next, then won two installments in a three-game set versus the Orioles. Arizona took a pair of wild victories versus the Brewers over the weekend, then beat Miami 10-4 on Tuesday. In game two the Diamondbacks kept it going with a 6-2 victory. On Thursday Arizona bagged another win despite getting out hit 13-5. The Diamondbacks scored twice in both the first and fourth innings on the way to a 6-4 victory. Both Josh Naylor (solo) and Pavin Smith (two hits; two RBI) had home runs.
In Friday’s opener versus the Cubs, the Diamondbacks came back from a 7-1 deficit with a whopping 10 runs in the eighth inning. Trouble is, Chicago scored six in the bottom of the frame for a 13-11 win. Eugenio Suarez (four RBI) and Lourdes Gurriel (three RBI; two hits; two runs) each had a homer to pace the offense.
As starter for the Saturday matchup it’ll be Arizona’s Zac Gallen. So far this year Gallen is 1-2 with a 4.64 ERA in four starts over 21.1 innings. In his MLB career Gallen is 54-39 with a 3.32 ERA in 147 starts.
Chicago Cubs Betting Preview
Over on the Cubs’ side, after their first series versus the Diamondbacks, they posted a sweep over the Oakland Athletics and then bagged wins in two of three versus the San Diego Padres. Chicago would then log victories in two of three games versus both the Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cubs split the first pair in their early-week series versus the San Diego Padres 10-4 (loss) and 2-1 (win) but couldn’t pull off the series victory after a finale loss 4-2 on Wednesday.
In the Friday matchup the Cubs bagged a whopping 18 team hits (and gave up 15) while scoring 11 runs in the team’s final two innings. Carson Kelly led the way with tow homers, five RBI and three runs.
As starter for Saturday Chicago will send out Ben Brown. This year in four games (three starts) Brown is 2-1 with a 5.09 ERA in 17.2 innings total. Over his MLB career Brown is 3-4 with a 3.95 ERA in 19 games (11 starts).

Cubs vs Diamondbacks Prediction
I’ll try Chicago in this one. Brown is 2-0 in his last three outings, beginning with a win over the A’s on March 31. Brown put up three earned in 5.0 innings in that one, then followed it up with 4.0 innings and five earned on seven hits and four walks in a no-decision versus the Padres. The good news is that Brown bounced back well in his last outing on April 12 versus the Dodgers. Brown logged 6.0 clean frames with five hits and no walks in a win. As for Gallen, he gave up five earned in 4.2 innings versus Baltimore during a loss on April 7, but bounced back in his last outing with two earned in 6.0 frames in a no-decision against Milwaukee.
Chicago came out on the winning end of a wild game on Friday, but did have a couple of rough performances out of the bullpen. Sunday’s finale will likely be much quieter, but it should also be another competitive matchup.
