The O’s played the rival Boston Red Sox this week. Baltimore won 5-3 Tuesday but dropped the other pair 12-3 and 5-3. In the opener versus Detroit, the Orioles could only muster one hit in a 1-0 loss. Starter Zach Eflin finished with 6.2 innings and one earned run.

For the starter gig Saturday the Orioles will send out Corbin Burnes. This year Burnes is 13-8 with a 3.18 ERA in 29 starts. Burnes is 58-35 with a 3.25 ERA in 196 games (135 starts) over his career.

On Friday Detroit had a brilliant pitching performance across the board with one hit and one walk. Brant Hurter did most of the pitching work on 5.2 clean frames, no hits, one walk and eight Ks.

As starter for Saturday Detroit didn’t immediately announce a name.

Detroit Tigers vs Baltimore Orioles Prediction

I’m staying with the Orioles. Burnes is pitching pretty well lately. Over his last three starts combined he’s just 1-2 but has only given up four earned in 16.0 total innings on 18 hits and three walks. Burnes should be good for a quality start here if all goes well.

On Friday the O’s were flummoxed at the plate and couldn’t get anything going. The good news is that the pitching staff was great, and Baltimore used just two arms out of the pen. Still, Baltimore needs a big comeback with the bats Saturday.
